I have one of those, it's measuring upto 300 km/h
    (haven't tried 300, but it display's 285 km/h what i've seen)

it's a sigma, when you contact Sigma (look at their webside for local contact info.) they will send you one for (in my case) 20 euro don't know dollar price though...

I tried a bicycle speedometer on my bobber and it is right on the money for acccuracy. The only problem I had with it was it was not backlit, so I couldn't see it at night. I ended up switching to a used one from a Honda which is about the same as the Yamaha one as far as being accurate. All metric bikes seem to be 5 mph off. so I just allow for it.

    yeah, that's kinda problem indeed.

yet, there are so many roadlights, you have allmost all the time enough light to look at the speed...

I want to try someday to backlit it. with power from the dashboard lights...

I'm sure I could've mounted an LED light shining on the face of the bike speedo to be able to see it at night. I found several LEDs that work for this at Radio Shack and they are cheap enough to buy several colors. PD

i used the speedometer from an '85-"88 yamaha fz 750. it is accurate and goes up to 145. if you find one from an '85-'88 fz 600, it will go to 135.

The bike speedos are cheap. I have to mount a sending unit on the forks and a little magnet on the wheel to sense the wheel speed. You will also need to program the speedometer by measuring the circumfrence of the front wheel to get an accurrate reading.
One thing nice about them is the fact that you can get it perfect by re-programming it's a bit off.

i do notice on my speedo

    30mph is on

    60mph i'm doing 56-57mph

    80mph i'm doing 75ish..

this is using those 'on the road' speed displayers. we have a few around town. Not sure how accurate they are.. but they only go up to 99, and roll over 01, 02, 03 etc, for 101 102... Now i'm not going to say how high i've gotten it, but it's high :)

i have done GPS in my cars.

but it's attached to my carpc, which won't work very well with the bike.

if the bike was ODBII, i could replace my speedo with the LCD... :) but it's not.

The 900 Speedo is Round and has a different Odo reset function.

The Max's are trimmed square on the bottom. I tried every which way to make a 900 speedo fit my Max and couldn't.

I think I'm going to just have to repace the entire instrument cluster on the 650. The speedo's display is wrong (way more than usual for this bike) and goes only to 85. It's difficult to replace because of the square bottom and the needle on the tach has snapped off. The four indicators in the center are just bulbs w/ colored plastic.

I guess it's time for some custom fab work and time to go guage hunting.

When I changed my tires the other day, my speedo seemed even more off than usual. So, I grabbed my handheld GPS and found it to be not too far off. The usual 5 mph the faster you go.

So, when I went for my long ride this weekend, I wired in a power port so that I could plug my Garmnin NUVI 200 into it. It worked great. I first stuck it on the gas tank as I have having trouble with my windscreen. But, I realized that it was too far down for it to be useful.

When I made a pitstop for more gas I fixed my windscreen so that it actually worked. And then I moved the GPS to it Much better, more in the line of site.

Garmin does make a bike specific GPS that I may look into at some point, but for now, I can use the NUVI.
