YICS TOOL

    does it matter which side you insert the YICS tool from & what is the easiest way to remove an end cap?

    No, either side will work, and by end cap, do you mean the bolt that seals off the YICS passage in the cylinder? If so, then you use a proper size wrench!

    ah, perhaps this motor is not the YICS model!
    engine no: 5N1-000844. does this ring any bells with anyone?

    There were many early XJs build pre-YICS. As I recall it was 1980-81 with a few very late 1982 models.

    I'd ahve to check the SN to be sure but if the passage plug is not on the back side of the head it is not a YICS motor.
