either i had a conversation regarding this or i read a thread here but i just went to progressive online to look at rates...

my 82 seca 750 has 100/300/100 liability and property and 100/200 unisnsured motorist thru state farm. $224 for the year...

i couldnt get the exact same coverage amounts with progressive but i never got a quote because the site wouldnt let me proceed without putting comprehensive and collision insurance on it too...

if i lose the bike in an accident i will be upset but lets face facts. its 26 years old. chances are the insurance probably wouldnt be able to find parts to repair it (they have to repair it like new) for the price they want to pay...

    just an FYI comment...

I'm not sure if you are asking a question but I got much lower rates with Dairyland than Progressive. I also got a LOT lower rates with AIG for my truck, only $113 per year! I've heard they also lost $Billions in that real estate mortgage scandal so I hope they don't go under too.

It's strange that the site wouldn't let you go without comprehensive and collision coverage. I was able to get it.

My Seca doesn't have collision or comprehensive coverage, just liability and uninsured motorists through Progressive's site. I'm only paying $40 a year on that bike.

Did you want the road-side assistance coverage? Their site requires you to opt for collision/comp coverage in order to get the road-side coverage.

I am so jealous of American insurance rates it's almost sickening.
Ontario 1/2 million in liability, and nothing else - $462 a year (and I'm one of the low ones)

Maybe this will ease the pain a bit - my R6 costs me $570 a year for full coverage with a $1000 deductible.

Wow, Altus that seems nuts. Sorry to say it but I am with Jim,$40 a year and thats just for the basic.

I did ask what the cost would be if I added more to the uninsured and death/dismemberment. He gave me a quote and told me its not worth it really. If I hit something, the bike don;t have enough mass to do a whole lot of dammage. If I get hurt my health insurence will take care of it.

Cool thing is he's ( my insurence guy ) has a '79 XS he just got fixed up. So I like to believe he was shooting me straight.

It's all about location whenit comes to insurance premiums. I noticed some who pay astronomical amounts to cover their bikes in the eastern states. Here in the midwest, insurance is fairly cheap. I pay $160 for full coverage for my VT1100 Honda Shadow and get a discount for having two bikes covered, so the discount is $30. Which means I pay $1 more for liability on my Seca! Can't beat that!!! $161/year.

yeah i had heard that progressive had some pretty good rates thats why i opted to check them out. ive been with state farm for nearly forever (since i started driving in '81) so ive got there best rate under the 'mutual' company...

i dont want to lose my bike if i wreck it but i realize it was only $1200 too...

ill have to check and see if i did something wrong...

i REALLY dont like having to put in my social security number so they can check my CREDIT report. that should have NOTHING to do with my rates...

Your age and driving record has an effect on the premiums also!

Unfortunately, your credit rating does affect your rates. Practically all insurance companies check it now.

My insurance agent tried to explain it to me. I don't remember his explanation of the reason why they do it , but I remember my response was "That's a bunch of bullsh__!"

One reason for that is because a lot of companies now take payments.
When they start asking me for credit information I just tell them I don't need credit since I'm going to pay cash in full.
My rates dropped by 50% just by moving 30 miles outside of Phoenix where all the accidents are! Before that I had 4 cars destroyed in accidents but out here there are a lot of people who have never even had an accident!

There are alot of negative things about living in the state of South Dakota but the insurance rates are one big calling card. For full coverage on my bike I pay $166 year. At that rate I took the comp and collision. and only a $100 deductable.
    Ya gotta love it..
