    Does anyone know about spacers in the front end of a 1985 Yamaha Maxim. I bought this bike and the guy said he put spacers in the front to raise the front end up. He is taller than me and I need to lower the bike. It does sit higher than a normal Max, because this is my second 85 I have owned and it sits higher than my other. I really do not know what he is talking about and how to take them out? Can anyone help me? Thanks this is a great site, have learned a lot from others talking.

    Welcome verng;
    All that comes to mind would be spacers installed inside the forks to add length to the fork springs, which I think would raise the front end.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Add some pics of your ride in the gallery.
    Good luck

    Thanks Rich, do you know how I could take them out? When I take the forks apart are they at the top or bottom, and what would they look like? Do you know where I could get some data on working on them?

    Thanks Vern :?:

    It's been talked about several times here, you might try the search option.

    Your best bet is to get the xjcd and a Haynes or Clymer service manual.
    You'll find the cd ordering info in the links section, the manual can be ordered many places and ebay is also an option.

    You'll have to remove them from the top, but you won't have to separate the forks unless you have leakage and need to replace the seals.

    As far as to what they look like, Im not sure. You could probably use alot of different things I guess, washers, broom handle, a piece of pipe.

    When they are new they have a spacer in them so you might have to get the originals if there not in ther any longer. But I'd guess he just added to what was there.
