I just wanted to say Hi and thanks to everyone for all their information. I have been reading on here for about a month trying to learn what I can. I have never really worked on bikes before, just learn as I go. I appreicate all of those that have the knowledge and care to share it with us "newbies"
I got my first bike 2 years ago, got it free from my dads boss. he is a die hard harley guy, bought this for his wife to get her riding, she never rode it as she wanted a harley right away. it wasn't running so he said if I come pick it up I can have it! I always wanted a motorcycle and couldn't beat the price so I snapped it up. Got her running and its been great ever since.
This year I started to have the desire to makes some mods which led me to this site. I don't have huge plans just want a different seat, need new exhaust, and love the look of the midnight version so might change out some chrome parts for black ones.
I was told its a 1981 but the title says 1980, can someone help me determine, i'm assuming the title is correct but who knows. Oh its a 650.
Anyways just wanted to say and thanks, here is a quick picture, I'll take more now that its nice enough to ride!
    Jared
    EDIT * made picture smaller*

Greetings from MN also! I love your seat, and am completely jealous! I've been searching for one like that for mine. I also have a 650 maxim, almost identical to yours. I'd be willing to buy it or trade you mine or whatever! I just have the original stock one. Whereabouts in MN you from?

thanks Gary, there is tons of info for a beginner like me, I try to do my best to search it all before asking any questions...

I just realized that the seat wasn't on all the way for the picture. I love the seat when I get my wife to ride, she wasnt so sure about the bike at first but always has a smile when we get done with a ride. I'd like to pick up a stock seat and have the tall one for when she rides, but I'll let you know.
    I live in Minnetonka

sweet, I work in Plymouth and I store my bike there in a friends garage, single guy with no toys and 3 car garage. He is nice enough to let me store the bike there in the winter and my snowmobiles in the summer.

I just got the bike running last night and brought her home. Rode to work today and will again tomorrow probably, thank god for 60 degrees finally!!!
Let me know when you get up and running, I'll keep my eyes out for you

    Welcome aboard Jaredfore!
We'll be getting a small group together soon and you are welcome to join us on our first ride. The plan is for Saturday, April 26th and ride somewhere dwon along the River into Wisconsin. We usually put on a couple hundred miles, nothing too extreme. We meet at the McDonalds on Dodd road and 110 in Mendota heights and take off from there. I come down from St. Cloud, so I have 90 miles on before we even get started!
I'll post all the particualars and a map of the location later.

Phoenix, that goes for you too. Your welcome to join us also. PD

Nice to see that I am not the only other crazy that can't wait to ride in the chill.

PainterD, how often do you plan runs? I like to just take off and ride country roads with no real plan and no one to ride with.

There sure are a bunch of sotens.

I'm over in SoDak. Let me know when you guys plan a ride and maybe I'll head in your direction.

I've been thinking of taking a long weekend that way and do the camping thing along the way.

    Badtazboy,
We try to get together atleast once a month for rides. If som eof us decide we want to get a bunch together and ride, we just post it on the forum or contact each other by phone (we PM each other with phone numbers) and go for a ride.
If your interested in going for a ride, just pm me (or anyone else) and I'm sure you will find someone who's interested. I'm usually willing to ride most weekends during the summer. PD
