Hi, I'm new to the forums. Bought an '82 Seca last fall. It was supposed
to have had the carbs cleaned in a local shop but ran rough. I pulled the
carbs and cleaned them carefully with a spray type cleaner , tooth brush
etc. and air. When I started it up it idled at ~ 3000 rpm when it warmed
up. Have the carbs off again and have noticed the main jet needle on two
of the carbs sits lower than the other two. There doesn't seem to be a way
of setting this like on old SU's, Mikunis or Amals. Has anyone else seen this
and if so, what's the fix?

Tnx in advance --paul , Delta BC Canada

Hey Paul---the needles on the Hitachis are non-adjustable, as you probably know. HOWEVER, the stepped round plastic "head" of the needles can actually move a bit up and down the needle shaft, you just have to press down on them to get them to "seat" against the bottom edge of the top of the needle (if that makes any sense). The top of the plastic head should be almost FLUSH with the top of the needle, with the aluminum needle head (with the straight slot in it, looks like it's a screw up there but it isn't!) just peeking out above the top surface of the plastic head (the head is technically called a "spring seat" by Hitachi, but what do they know?).

Tnx Chacal, one of the needles is as you say , the others are buried way
down in the spring seat. I'll try and move the needle, carefully!!!

Sometimes you have to "pound" (by hand) the plastic seat back "down" onto the needle shaft. I take the needle, upside down, and pound the plastic head down against a flat, hard surface (countertop, etc.) and that can get them back in place. They are on there pretty tight!

Chacal, I popped the three down that were low, now all lined
up. I'll check everything else and put them back together, see
how she runs. Methinks I'll be checking a lot of other things that
    the previous owner had done!!

    Again tnx for the info

    Cheers ---p
