Well the XJ's will have some good company in Garage this summer... Picked up a 1977 XS750 with 5,433mi for $150 that had been sitting for 27 years in a garage and not on the road since 1981. Motor is locked, got it soaking with penetrating oil in the Cylinders. Tank is not too bad at all. Bit of rust on the 3-1 exhaust and fenders. Will be rebuilding it this fall.

    Sweet!

I hear the XS 750's are good bikes... Look cool too.
Plus not many people have a tripple.

This will be the second one I restored. The last one was a 1979 XS750 Special. Had 3 into 2 exhaust. I look forward to hearing this 3 into 1 for sure.

You're bringing back some memories here. My first new street bike was a '78 XS750E, exactly like the one in this pic:

    http://www.biker.net/roadtest/xs750e/xs750E_a.jpg

I was a senior in high school at the time, and it cost me every nickel I had. It was well worth it, though. I rode that bike everywhere, and the girls loved it.
Thirty years later, I can still recall the feel of the bike exactly. Glacially slow by today's standards, it felt like a rocketship to me at the time when compared to the CB350 it replaced. The big triple was torquey and smooth (except for a pronounced buzz between 5K and 6K), and it stopped on a dime, which was key to surviving my early squidhood.
On the downside, the bike had a tendency to wallow in high-speed sweepers (especially on less than perfect pavement), and the lashy driveline made late-entry gear changes something of an adventure.
If you want to make your XS750 a real rider, I would suggest the following:
    1) Upgrade the suspension front and rear.
    2) Install an effective fork brace.
    3) Drill the front discs. As good as its brakes were for the era, this bike doesn't want to stop in the rain.
    4) Ditch the OEM handlebar (an inexplicably bad bend) for something more user friendly.
    5) Give it more air at the intake.
Enjoy this old gem, dude. Post pics of your progress.
