How 2 nstall luggage rack? [anyone have accessory manual?]

    Twitchbiker sold me a luggage rack/sissy bar for my 81 XJ650 (hooray). Anybody know a place I can look to learn how it bolts on? Pretty sure I can work it out eventually but the fit is tight and I don't wanna risk scratches while muddling around if I can find how to do it right from the start.

    There's a Yamaha Accessories manual now on ebay but I'm eager to bolt up my new toy asap, so I can tell my wife I'm not just out riding for fun... I'm going on important shopping errands now. :wink:

    UPDATE: will trade Texas chili for fax of manual page! :)

    dawned on me later that I should have also asked:

    DOES ANYONE HAVE A YAMAHA ACCESSORIES MANUAL? It may contain instructions on installing the factory luggage rack.

    I'll send chili fixins (or whatever you like*) to anyone kind enough to fax me that page of the manual so I can put on my new (to me) rack/sissy bar. :)

    *would have offered beer option but you can't legally mail beer. In fact I learned you can't even use an empty alcoholic beverage box to mail anything. Found this out after waiting in line with Christmas gifts packed in a beer box. Asked if I could just cover up the outside printing; they were welcome to open and inspect. They said... Nope!

    wrap some electrical tape on it where you think it might contact the bike
    take your time, how hard can it be ?
    i'll take a wild guess and say the shock bolt and fender bolts

    Thats not exactly true. I brew my own beer, and along with many others, we mail beer all the time. Thats how you submit beers to contests like the anual Sam Adam's Longshot contest. I'd get some clarification.

    I have the 'genuine yamaha' trunk and bags (see my avatar). The bracket bolts on to the shock and two threaded holes behind. If it is a genuine yamaha part, just tape it up like polock says and try to line it up. it should become obvious as it was made for that bike.

    thanks guys, that's what I'll do. Appreciate the good advice. Should fit as Twitch and I have similar 81 XJs.


    Hmmm... well, I'll admit you have more knowledge on this than me. All I know is that one experience being turned away when trying to mail Christmas gift packages in a reused beer box. clerk told me I couldn't use any box that suggested alcohol contents.

    But who knows, the postal clerk in my small Texas town may have been mistaken. Or had a bad day.

    Since I'm pretty much talking through my hat, googled the question and found this which also cited "Motor vehicle master keys" as restricted. I didn't know that!
