I've just bench synced my XJ700 N's carbs using feeler gauges but the largest gap I could get was just .002 so I synced them all to that. It seems a very small gap to me any idea what it should be approx.

Also I need to the adjust the cam chain, something I have never done before, is it auto adjust and how do I go about it.

I found the best way was to turn the idle screw all the way in (At back of carbs underneath) and use a wire from inside a freezer bag tie (small one, pull off the paper coat and straighten) - pop it directly in the center underneath number 3 (one you can't adjust) butterfly and then let the idle screw out until you just feel it tug, then move to 4 and adjust in the same way turning the screw in between 3 and 4, by opening the butterflies with the throttle linkage cable (dont push up on the adjuster in between it can result in problems) and slide the wire underneath the same way, then do 2 and 1 the same, it has to be under the center on the butterfly assuming that they are nice and round, and will give you a fairly nice even sync
On the cam chain adjustment - mine is just a case of undoing the nut on the side of the adjuster and pop, the tension goes back in the chain, 2 mins easy peasy. especially while you have the carbs off
