    Hi All
    Great Forum

Been lurking for a while, picking up bits of info. Until I found this site, I was pretty much in the dark about my bike. Thanks, right off the bat.
I've got an 82 maxim 400 (i know, it's xs not xj, but this is the only place i could find where people knew what a maxim is).
Got it from a guy that tucked it away in his garage 10 years ago and just left it. Slowly whipping it into shape.
Out of my ton of questions, about half were answered just by searching this forum. I've managed to come up with more though. I'll do my best to get them into the appropriate threads.

    Thanks again
    k

Does it run ... or, have you got a boat-load of work to do?

I'm in savage. A bit south of the metro.
    She's a runner. Wasn't when i picked it up.
I've never seen so much gunk in a float bowl. petcock must have had a slow leak. Crud right up to the bottom of the main jets. yuck.
cleaned / synched the carbs and she ran pretty good. but didn't completely break them down, or replace the fuel line.
carbs are back on the bench as we speak. Pulled some junk from somewhere that plugged the slows. did a better job cleaning this time. but now i've got a leaking needle/seat. There's always something...
I'll try to get a pic and get that into my sig.
It took long enough to get the biker chicks in my portrait... :)

Minnesota eh? That got my attention. I'm up in St. Cloud.
Maybe we can meet and ride?
You are fortunate to be close enough to a salvage yard for parts too. I've been down there several times for parts in the past.
I've been trying to get a bunch of us Minn-es-sotans together for a ride this summer if your interested.
There appears to be a few members up here and some down there, so it looks like we could maybe meet in say...Monticello or Rogers and go from there? Just an idea. Once this weather straightens out, we can set a date and meeting place. PD

    Hey PainterD
Yeah, I noticed that you were trying to put something together. Lousy weather...
I'd be game, but I'll have to find back road routes if i'm gonna ride this 400. It'll take highway speeds, but not gracefully.
I used to live closer to prescott, so i got spoiled by the roads in the river valleys. Sweet riding any way you look at it.
I'm not too far from sport wheels but they gouge a bit. Last time i had to turn to them for a part, they left me with an anorexic wallet. Works in a pinch though...
Keep me posted. I'll ride any chance i get.

We'll be taking mostly back roads on our rides. We don't usually do alot of highway riding as it's not very scenic or curvy. Don't be intimidated by the size of your bike. You'll do just fine. I wouldn't be afraid of riding my old 350 Honda and keeping up with the bunch.
As soon as the weather clears, we will set up a meeting place and do some serious riding. PD
