    heres the results results
    heres the mod mod
    this is for a 82 xj750j
results will vary according to the condition of all the connectors and switches in the headlight circuit
mine were all cleaned before this started, i found the ignition switch was the largest drop

after looking at the mod, forget the upper fuse and 5900 ohm resistor, thats for the battery warning light

    Polock,
So let me get this right...
Your just running the headlight straight off the battery with a relay instead of running it thru the switch? That's been my idea as soon as I get a relay. I makes sense to me and should make it brighter without having the power running thru all the connectors and switch.

I did something similar except I used the relay to bypass the ign. switch to improve the electrical system overall, not just the headlight. I connected the relay from the battery to the input of the fuses where the wire comes back from the switch bypassing the wiring going up to the switch and back then used the switch to operate the relay.

Yup, that sounds like it makes sense. The switches should only be used to activate the relays then. I switched my horns and use a relay on them now. They are loud as a freight train now.
After removing switches and taking them apart to look at just how they work, it's a wonder they last as long as they do!!! Those little sliding contacts with springs behind them just seem to be poor quality to me.

heres something similar, but you loose the original battery warning light, that doesn't work too well anyhow
but it eliminates a separate switch option2
