I have an XJ700 that will not charge. How do I test my diode and rectifier to determine which is bad?

Don't you mean how do you test your alternator and regulator? You can check the alternator with an ohmmeter following the directions in the manual and by checking the brushes visually. The regulator can only be tested for sure by substituting a good unit after you have eliminated everything else like bad fuses, broken fuse holders, bad grounds, corroded connections and a dead battery that won't take a charge.
