My bike was starting on two (2&3) cylinders, and then died after a couple seconds.

I replaced one coil (1&4), still nothing.

So must be gas, I thought. Cleaned the carbs, checked TCI and petcock,...After a couple months of working on it on and off, I was ready to part the thing out (I am moving to LA soon).

Today I replaced the spark plugs as a last chance and the bike fired right on, I can't believe all the trouble I went through for 7 dollars worth of plugs :)

So, lesson learned, altough the spark plugs looked good (little black, but good overall)...CHECK the EASY things FIRST.

    Gone riding.

Hello to all my friends XJers!

We had a similar situation at the carb clinic Sunday.

Bike would only run well above 2Krpm. Pulling 1 inch H20 vacuum.

The carbs had been open and been spotless.

    We ran a compression check.

We synced it (as best we could).

Then in frustration we decided to colortune. Popped the colortune in hole #3 and all of a sudden ran much better.

Turned out to be a bad plug and a loose cap on another cylinder.

This same thing with mine. Cleaned carbs and cleaned and cleaned again. Finally listed to advice of the vets who said, "Check yer damn sparks, girl!"

I did. Turned out the threaded connection between lead and spark was worn fairly smooth. Not conducive to a great running bike.

    Thanks guys!
