    Hello folks ,
I have an 1985 xj 700N w/13 k. miles . Mine for 12 years now .Its been a great runner with little problems to speak of . changed fluid often.
The valve cover was removed for the first time this morning.
came off with little effort .The rubber gromets for the valve cover mounting screws are gray and will have to be replaced along with a new gasket im sure . The question is, :
I checked the valve lash this morning at around 67 deg.
All is fine except no.1 exhaust is showing a tight 9 thousands .
Should I be concerned considering 8 thousands is max.All other clearances where very nice.
All the other exhaust clearances showed around 7 to 8 thousands.
Seems ok to me .Just looking for some good advise
Also the CD manual asked to do the valves in sequence and dosnt
explain where to place the cam lobes for best readings . I did read on a
few threads that the valve being checked should have the cam lobe 180deg from the shim surface .Is this true ?If it is, than Im fine .Could use a little insight . Should I re-shim ?
    Thanks
    Wayne

If its a tight 9-thousandths and you measured the clearances with the lobe 180-Out I'd leave it until the 20,000 Mile check-up.

Unless you are the type that is going to worry about it ... then you can try to re-shim that one valve.

Since it's and Exhaust Valve and its NOT tight ... I think you can get-away with leaving it alone until the scheduled check-up at 20,000 Miles.

    No sweat!

Spend the time dialing-in your Mixtures and getting the most out of the engine.
Put a fuel filter in line.
    Do your Fuse Panel.
Smooth-out the whole ride and have a little fun with that Yamaha!
