The window is really dirty and I can't see if I have put enough oil. I tried to google for the info but no luck. My manual is still in the mail and I am afraid to start it until I know it has the right amount of oil. I put about 3 Qts already.

    thanks all for the help.

Spec sheet at Yamaha for an 1982 XJ550RJ says it's 2500cc for an oil and filter change, or 2200cc for just an oil change.

hrmm... i did 2.6 - 2.7 quarts in the other day (if you do the conversion 2.65 q = 2.5 liter), but because i couldnt find the replacement filter i didnt replace that.... I didnt know about the 2.2 liters without a oil filter change.

1 US quart = 946 cc/ml. We did a complete oil change on an 81 750 Seca last weekend and, having drained the middle drive sump and a new oil filter, we put 3 quarts in to fill to the top line.
