OK... Left side of bike, directly below the crankshaft. There is a round thing, about the size of a fifty cent piece. it has a hex head in the middle that appears to be filled with an expoxy type material. I found a drop of oil on the bottom of it, like behind the flat cover that appears to be there, not coming out of the expoxy. I have no idea what this part is. It shows on the pics of the engine rebuild in the service manual, but they never do anything with it, nor tell what it is. Can anyone help?

It's a block-off plug for the main engine oil gallery....not supposed to be removed except during engine rebuilds, or, when it leaks.

HCP6220 OEM crankcase oil gallery plug O-RING, fits both sides. Each:
    $ 2.95

attached pic, to make sure we are on the same page. So does that mean I can fix it without tearing the whole engine apart?

No need to take the engine apart, just remove that bolt (carefully, it's on there really tight!).

so I have to dig that stuff out that is filling up the hole then? Going to keep an eye on this and see just how bad it is leaking but I found a drop on there after about a 20 mile ride. Thanks for the help Chacal. May be ordering that gasket sometime in the coming weeks.

Yeah, but that stuff is probably just mud & road grime, a small pick will clean it right out.

Oh, almost forgot! drain your oil first.....or you'll be draining it through this hole when you remove the plug!

nah it's some sort of light gray caulking or something. That was the actual bike engine, it's pretty clean, No? Thanks for the tip about the oil, was wondering about that. Definitely probably wait now, just changed the oil yesterday while I was fixing the neutral switch.

Don't remove that Plug unless you absolutely need to. That Plug is cast aluminum and will fracturue very easily if over-tightened.

That Plug is to the Main Oil Gallery.
    There is NO Gasket.
    There is an O-ring seal.

If its dripping on you ...
Lay the bike over at an extreme angle on to an old matress or blankets.
    Remove the Plug.
    Replace the O-ring.
Wrap the threads with Teflon Thread Sealing Tape 3 or 4 wraps.

Replace the Plug and tighten it by hand.
    Don't overdo it.
The Crown on the Plug splits right off the body of the threaded section if you over tighten the Plug when reinstalling it.

OH ok thanks Rick. If I lay the bike over like that, won't it dump gas onto into the crank, or flood the carbs?

    Not that far.
Just far enough to prevent the oil in it from leaking out.
A couple of strong guys could hold it.
You could do it on the sidestand if the sidestand was on the other side.

LOL OK. I could probably hold it up if I had to. It fell on me the other day while I was sitting on the floor and I pushed it back up. Not that I am going to try it again. I have an H burnt on the back of my arm, too. (different incident) If I feel like messing with the camera tomorrow i will take a pic for you.
    Thanks for the help everyone!
