My bike is hard to shift into gear. when down shifting it pushes hard til it bangs down a gear. When i am in 1st and go for nuetral it usualy jumps past into 2nd, same with going from 2nd to nuetral - usually skips down and into 1st. The upshifts seam normal.

I know i have the right amount of oil, and i'm 90% sure it's the right weight - but i'm going to change it just to see. Any other ideas?

I was thinking clutch drag. Could be a stretched or fraying cable, check to see if theres a lot of play in thre cable, I think it's about 3 mm, not 100% though, got a few bikes and they all different.

I thought clutch, but the cable is new and adjusted correctly.

Going to change the oil right now. Read the book and it tells me there is a second drain plug for the trans gears. didn't know that. maybe i have too much oil in the bike. the sight glass is messed up. I'm going to measure what comes out. The book tells me i need 2.5 litres in the bike. thats 2.64 quarts in US measure.

Don't mess with the second drain plug...they break very easily, and the amount of oil you will get out by removing it is minimal.Just not worth the risk,IMO.

Yup, my bike shifted 100% better after an oil change. There's a little more clutch "drag" when cold with the new oil (remember, the clutches are wet so the oil acts just like tranny fluid in a torque converter) but that goes away once the bike is up to temp.

Yeah, that second drain plug is in a bad spot. Exhaust sytem was in the way - i messed with it for a while then said F it. The bike has new oil and i will see how it rides to work in the AM . . .
