Stopped by slashdot to see what was up before going to bed, and what do I find?

"Customers hosting with ThePlanet, a major Texas hosting provider, are going through some tough times. Yesterday evening at 5:45 pm local time an electrical short caused a fire and explosion in the power room, knocking out walls and taking the entire facility offline. No-one was hurt and no servers were damaged. Estimates suggest 9,000 servers are offline, affecting 7,500 customers, with ETAs for repair of at least 24 hours from onset. While they claim redundant power, because of the nature of the problem they had to go completely dark. This goes to show that no matter how much planning you do, Murphy's Law still applies."

You get three guesses as to which provider hosts this site, and the first two don't count. Either the site was down and got fixed, or wasn't affected.

A big provider like that usually has colo redundancy setup. My guess is xjbikes isn't their lowest level of hosting account, so they were in the redundant server set.

    It depends where you were.

The ninja 250 site is down - as are anyone in that location. The fire/explosion knocked out 2-3 walls... the generators had to be turned off because of the hazard to the firefighters. Now they're bringing the servers online and getting the infrastructure running on the 2nd floor... the 1st floor will be later.

Then when the harness system is up they'll start powering up client servers... some 4500 machines IIRC.

Last night about this time until 4:00 I was swearing at this site.
I had 3 windows open so I could read one page while the other 2 opened.
