I looked in the forums but not much luck in finding how to
build a solo seat? Has anyone built a cowling that covers the original
seat but can be taken off for 2 up riding?

I've seen someone who did just that on a seca... the removeable cowl. I believe it was the cover off of a new triumph thuxton.
I don't have the link, sorry.

I have a cafe seat on mine, and a bit of a writeup on how I did it in my build page (click the pic at bottom of this post)... If you want both a cafe seat and a 2-up seat I have solved that problem for myself as well.

... Here's an older post I made on the subject:

secas look beeter with the cafe seat. I would go witha solo seat for your max. rig up a new rear fender.

I made that seat from the old seca two person seat. Its not a pro job but it works

irishladjbl has a really sweet set up for what looks like a solo but the cowl comes off to be a two seater. I would check out his bike. Very inspirational to those of us who need the two seats. Good luck
