1980 Maxim XJ 650 G bike for sale $850 obo (Oswego,IL)

    Hello all,

    I figured that I would try listing this bike here before trying my luck @ ebay. I have a metallic purple 1980 Maxim XJ650G motorcycle for sale "as is". It has 21,662 original miles on it.
    It was my fathers before I took it over. It has been garaged it's entire life. It had been ridden sporadically since I had kids in daycare from '95-'01. Hard to strap down 2 toddlers on a bike :p .
    There are some nicks here and there (dropped once). It has been mostly idle for about 4 years. We just got it running via the help on this site, however it still needs some tuning. It starts and runs, but the idle/throttle response is still off.
    The seat is a replacement and in excellent condition. Tires were replaced prior to my taking ownership, and have probably less than 3k miles on them. Just did an oil change. I have an Owners manual, Service Manual, backrest, and oil filter change kit.
    The registration has expired, sorry no test rides available without, not to mention it still needs some work. I have title.

    I am asking $850 or best offer. Cash preffered. USPS Postal money orders also accepted. I will post here until around June 14th or so, depending on response or lack thereof.

    Mapquest shows approx 5 hours from Eau Claire, WI.
    Full disclosure: I have tried starting the bike since the original posting, and have had spotty record on starting it up. Sometimes yes, others, no. It was starting, running as described when listed. I tried tweaking the idle knob when it was last run and perhaps put it out of range (?). This is the reason I am selling, as fixing it fully, is beyond my limited knowledge. I ride them, I don't fix them.
    Anyone interested please pm or reply on this board, as I want to sell this while it's still nice out. Ebay or motorcycle store probably this weekend. I can hold off for any serious inquiries.

    Any offers?....Going...going...

    Full disclosure: I am an idiot.

    The whole reason the bike wasn't starting each time was because the battery wasn't fully charged. I used my trickle charger overnight, set the gas line to "pri" and it started up right away. Moved the gas back to normal.
    It does still have the idle issue though.
    Again, i would prefer someone from this site to purchase, since you are all Xj lovers and I know it would go to good use. I have a busy weekend with father's day, so I will put off the Dealer/ebay route once again...
