    Quick question guys,
I bought this 700 in March. I have yet to see the fan come on and run. It doesnt over heat although in a lot of stop and go riding it begins to move up towards the right side of the guage. With it getting a lot hotter here I got to thinking about it and it dawned on me I have never see or heard it run. So question is -- when should it come on? There is a gap in the temp guage half way up - does that mean anything? Just wanted to check before one day I'm not paying attention to it and run it hot.
    Thanks,
    Gary

That gap in the temp bar about half way up is where mine sits during normal riding. When it heats up in stop and go traffic the needle creeps into the red before the fan comes on.

It seems to be a little cooler running than my buddy's FJR, which sounds like the fans are on 80% of the time.

Hey thanks for the replies. I've never gotten it into the red so if thats where it kicks in I feel better.

Hmmm... You might wanna think about running the temp up just to make sure your cooling system is working and *will* come on when you need it. The last thing you want is to find out something's not working when you're sitting on the side of a congested highway at rushhour.

When I got my bike that is one of the first things I did ran it in the garage until the fan ran it did hit the red before the fan came on. I wasn't chancing it if it didn't work down the road.

You both are right and thats a good idea. I'll check it tommorrow. But what if it doesnt come on? I dont know how long I have the nerve to wait for it to come on. When it hits the red and its not on I know I'll have a finger on the kill switch.

keep a little ordinary fan nearby if I recal it may even have been like 1/16-1/8" into the red before it came on. If it doesn't come on turn the fan on directly in front of the radiator and cool things down. and bring down the temp and it is running if you just shut it down it is still just as hot and not circulating any cool liquid through the motor. any fan will work about a 6-8" will be most effective but anything you can plug in and get air moving will help just in case. Of course you could also hop on it (given yoru hemet is handy) and go for a spin to get air moving through the radiator. If it does not come on he-he then the fun begins. First I would unplug the fan and hook it to a battery(12V) and see if the fan motor comes to life. If not there your prob if it does then you have a temp sensor or fuse, possibly a bad wire that you will have to track down.

    It Works!

Wasn't able to check it yesterday but I had the chance today and the fan did come on when the needle hit the middle of the gap before the red. So looks like everything is ok in that department. I feel better.
    Thanks for you help,
    Gary

Mine actually came on yesterday too!
FIRST time in traffic (I had tested it in the garage before)
A couple of stop lights in town and 95 degrees got her a bit toasty.

    Hey Desinger_Mike,
Glad to hear yours works as well. Do you have any pics up of your bike? I like the color. If not holler at me and I'll send you my email if you could send me a couple of pics.
    Thanks,
    Gary
