so ... turns out i'm dumb and let my motorcycle endorsement drop off my license when I renewed it at my 21st birthday (several years ago now) so i get to take my permit test again!

I have absolutely no memory of how this test went, but I've been going over the "motorcycle operator manual" that i picked up from the dmv.

Anyone gone through this recently and got any recomendations? The stuff in the book honestly seems like common sense... "Check for traffic before you try to pass a car ahead of you." Duh?

i took mine recently, in the midst of finals, moving, and starting a new job, it was all pretty basic, basic traffic law, passenger stuff, raod conditions, and they got me on the insurance questions, my test in MN was 45 or 40 questions and i missed one, best test i had all semester. 8O

I just took my test today and it was about 20 questions, if you read the book you should easily pass, being that its a real short booklet i read it 3 times.

If I remember back to 1999 (I had to retake it when I moved back from WI), the IL test had 20 question and all were common sense except one about a diagram showing a bike merging from a ramp. The answer they want does NOT jive with the diagram. But maybe they fixed that by now. At any rate, it was only one question (I got it 'wrong' in '95 and 'right' in '99).

I know you're not in IN, but the point is, don't sweat it. I think the DMV is just happy when folks actually go in to get a motorcycle license. I'm constantly amazed at how many riders don't have the M endorsement.

I went for a ride last night with two guys who live on the same block as me, both have EXTREMELY expensive "custom" kit-choppers, and neither have their endorsement OR insurance. Made me pretty nervous, heh. I've got my insurance worked out but I still gotta get my bike plated and get my permit so i can get my endorsement!

Well, I passed the written test! Just FYI, the Indiana one is 25 questions, I didn't miss any. There were 2 or 3 that were kind of confusing though, such as "look at this diagram of a motorcycle merging onto the highway, which lights on the bike make him more noticable to the driver of the car?"

I wish I had had the time to handle my registration at the same time, but unfortunately I was just on my lunch break and had to get back to work, so I'll be taking care of that on tomorrow's lunch.

Woot to being that much closer to legally riding the bike around though! haha.

The test in Oklahoma was around 20 questions on a computer. Mostly common sense but they have some tricky ones in there like where specifically in your lane to ride in what conditions. FYI, front brake supplies over 3/4 of your stopping power.

I rode for more than 4 years with no endorsement (and usually no insurance), until one cop finally noticed. It's nice to not have that little thing nagging in the back of my mind any more. What REALLY got to me was going back 3 times on the driving test. Insurance verification on me (even though it was in the computer), OSHA approved goggles or helmet, and something else. AND they make you put both feet down at every stop.... I often don't put either foot down (still complete stop), or just one... real tightasses.

Yeah ... I usually only put my left foot down, as the right one is holding on the brake... heh. Not too many intersections in my town that are flat enough that the bike doesnt roll on me, and I'm not smooth enough on the gas/clutch combo yet to prevent the roll-back after letting go of the front brake, but before I get the clutch engaged and take off. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually though, lol.

Just completed the riding test last weekend to get my endorsement. The written test was not hard at all. i looked through the book in the waiting area and only missed one question. I didn't take the Abate class, but a number of friends have recommended it especially if you don't have a lot of riding experience. There were lots of guys who dropped their bikes during the riding test especially ones riding big Harleys or Shadows.

It's tough doing that Figure-Eight on a HUGE Harley. But, you never know when you are going to be asked to ride your Harley in a Parade and have to do a few Figure-8's to the applause of the admiring crowd!

Sucks when you drop it, too!

CT's test it awful. i memorized the book, and there wasnt a single question from the info provided in the book! the questions are very vague, and can be interpreted different ways wich makes different choices correct depending on how you see the question. i got 4 out of 16 wrong, wich was the limit to pass.

South Carolina's written test has one wrong answer in it. I forget what it's about, but if you answer it correctly, the machine scores it as incorrect.

RickCoMatic, I'm scouting around for a dual-purpose bike to take the test on because of the figure eights. Maybe I'm missing the point on that maneuver but if space is that tight, I'm not going to do a continuous U-turn anyway. I'll do a 3-point turn instead.

In Arkansas the written test is 10 questions.
If you tell the lady behind the desk that you have been riding for a few years, she usually waives the driving part of the test.
    Go figure...

The test in Massachusetts included a "Circle to the Left and a Circle to theh Right inside of a tight bunch of cones.

Then, they wanted a figure eight without your feet leaving the footpegs.
