A while ago when I accelerated hard (8,500 RPMS) the oil level warning light came on. I would assume that I pumped the oil out of the crankcase to lower than the normal level. When I stopped and checked the oil level, all seemed well, although it took 20 min. or so of riding for it to turn back off. Should I add a lil oil or is there something else I'm missing?

More likely you sloshed it all to the back away from the level sensor.

You should check the oil on the center stand, engine off for a few minutes so it drains out of the top end. I like to keep mine about 3/4 up the sight glass. The 1/4 is so I can see if gasoline drained in there.

If you're not low your oil level sensor is probably sticking.

Yamaha put out a factory notice to the dealerships about this issue. The fix is to ensure the oil fill reaches the top of the oil level sight glass.

Is gasoline draining into the oil a problem. I've never heard of such a thing. How does it get in? Is the sight gauge the only way of checking or will you notice it in your performance?

After all the time spent here on this site, you've never read any posts at all about sticking float needles and leaking petcocks? You know -- petcock leaks, bowls fill up, gas works its way past a needle that's stuck open, flows into the cylinder, past the rings and into the crankcase?

Makes sense. I've never had a leaky petcock (how dirty does that sound?) or a sticking float needle. It makes sense, I have just never heard of it. That would certainly thin out your oil wouldn't it?

Most of us have had oil in our gasoline. You are in the minority here.

And as a minority I demand that I get preferential treatment in all things XJ.

Okay, tell you what. To make things up to you, how about we dump a quart of 20w-50 into your gas tank? ;)

The fact that I can barely get off my bike after a 400 kilometer ride is showing my age too.

How am I gonna make it through Europe?

You are refering to Yogi, and no, the ranger isn't going to like it one bit.

Yoga helps get the joints and body limber, helps fend off the stiff joint issues of age. Might be worth trying for a month or so to see if it helps any.

You're not the first person to recommend this to me. I'm going to look into it right away. Just started eating better. I'm going to try and drop 20 pounds before I leave as well.

I guess that means no more picinic baskets BooBoo!

Ok, low oil to yoga, haha. Thanks for the input. The oil does check out okay so I wont be worried.
