The mufflers on my bike are coming loose. I tried tightening the clamp, but it won't tighten it enough. Is there any problem with just welding them together? It's the join where the muffler connects to the 4-2 part.

Your probably missing the Exhaust Gasket and it won't tighten up to stop the leakage. That would be #5.

It's where number 2 connects up. The one side has no gasket, and it tightens right up, so I'm not sure. Will welding it work?

I wouldn't do it. If you off just a little you'll never get a good seal at the head.

You have to take it off to do either. I'd just spring for new gaskets, after you get them off, you'll know how many.

i got the same thing the right side is loose RP you are looking at the forward side the problem exists on the rear side of the collector I put some galvanized strapping between the pipe and clamp and it worked for a bit. THere is no gasket for this in the pic above and I seen no reminents either. Muffler cement would also work as it can be removed if needed. slather it up and assemble let dry per iinstructions and you should be fine.

I tried that gasket in a tube stuff, but it doesnt seem to want to hold. I was also thinking that if I put some metal inbetween it will be able to tighten it with the clamp

Take a section of Copper Tubing with a larger Outside Diameter than what needs the gasket.

Cut a "Slanted" section out of the tubing fit it in the space to be sealed.
If you get the cut right ... the tubing will act as a gasket and give you some purchase to make a clamp work.
