Do you think Harley are in danger of producing a proper motorbike?

Not for the price they want for a XR1200 they haven't...

They are out of their tree on the price vs. the performance

I heard there was a guy who wanted to take a long trip with his Harley.

But he couldn't go because he couldn't find a trailer.

But Buell is no longer using Harley motors. They have switched to ROTEK (spl?) I beleive.

When I can find one online, clean and running, for $2K or less, THEN it will be a proper motorbike. Not that I'd buy it anyway, it would probably turn out to be an AMF harley.

GO BUY YOURSELF THE LATEST MOTORCYCLIST MAGAZINE.
It covers both the XR1200 and Buell's Rotax/Aprilla's Rotax(diff generation)
The XR is cafe racer, and is MY ideal bike. The motor is performance grade with NO doubts(runs a hopped up sportster engine, and I MEAN hopped up)
Feet are under you, and the ergo will lean you forward.
**EDIT** I remember the fuel tank was small, like 3.6 gallons :(

This bike is their test for the NON USA market. Why is it only NON USA?.....cause harley doesnt believe they can sell this bike here.
Read the article and you will see my attraction to the big, powerful, sport-tuned VTwin.

I will grab the article from the house during lunch and report back if work is slow

Only the new 1125R uses the Rotak engine. The XB's still use an improved Sportster engine.

It may look strange, but it provides better braking than anything on the XJ's.

That being said, I still prefer the brakes on my R6 - dual floating disks with radial mount calipers. They can haul that baby down from speed with just two fingers on the lever.

I donno... I've ridden a couple of buells (and R6's) and I find the geometry of the buell really makes that front brake insane.

First ride it was automatic stoppies at red lights.

The brake on a buddy's XB9 is pretty nice. Maybe they are adjusted initially crappy and need to be readjusted. Still, I'll stick with the R6, I like how it handles and the Buell runs out of steam way before it does.

KAOS - you should learn to rely on the front brake. It will safe your life. 8O

Hah, fair enough, but you'll NEVER do a stoppie on your XJ.

P.S. You go through a lot of back tires?

    KAOS,

I think I can with some cofidence say that you haven't been riding long and that you are considerably younger than 23.

As said in a past post, that front brake WILL save your life someday. Even if you find the back brake"fun" you need to get aquainted with the brake in your right hand.

Remember, your not on a motocrosser. I would like to feel that if I'm on the road with you your using that front brake for everyone else on the road.

    Be safe and ride on.

    The Buff

The Buell brake is neat/cool/innovative but lacks in CONTINUED BRAKING.
Ride the front brk hard and you will warp it quick.
If I am paying for a bike NOT MADE WITH 80's TECH, I expect the brake to be top notch. Not just so-so.
That is one of the reasons I am looking @ KTM's Super Duke not the Buell.
    Personal prefrence I am afraid.

I use my front brake when needed. I just like using my rear break when the front isn't needed. Its fun! N I'm 30, I've been riding for a quite a few years now... I've had some "powerful" bikes. Where I NEEDED 2 use that front brake all the time!
