I just bought a pair of aftermarket turn signals, the small cats eye ones...well I put one side on and they light up but dont blink(??) What did I do wrong. I have never been a very smart one when it comes to electronics. Like I said, they light up but no blink.....

The flasher unit is designed for a certain electrical load.

When you change that load, the flasher doesn't flash. I had mistakenly believed it was a thermal flasher, but apparently it is a different setup. The philosophy I think is the same as the fast flash on a car, to warn that a bulb is out. Problem is, a bulb isn't out, it's just not pulling the same wattage

There are a number of solutions.

    1) Increase the load with resistors. This gets hot and wastes wattage. Not a good solution, but that doesn't stop people from doing it.

    2) Buy a timed flasher, not a load based flasher unit. This is more pricey, but you can run what ever type of bulbs you want.

    3) Use a different bulb that draws enough wattage. This however could melt your indicator lens covers. Not great either!

Need more details from you to procede

I'm using one of these on my R6. It plugs right in and controls the flash rate of the front LED signals and the rear OEM signals.

I'm not sure if the plug is the same on the XJ's. It make require some wire splicing, but it will make your new signals flash.

Sure is, buy an inexpensive 2 pin electronic flasher from the automotive supply house of your choice for under $15. No problems there.
I bought mine from Napa for about $12. Workie workie no problems.

Check page 8 of my build thread for a pic of the flasher you need.

"What to do when your flashers stop flashing"

And it's mounted under the tank. You can get at it with some swearing, but if you don't mind hauling the tank off it's way easier... Of course then you run the risk of beating up your tank...

You just have to pull out the original, then remove the wires from the plug and swap them to the proper locations on the switch for your new relay.
(Check the link below, Pg8, for the wiring diagram)

Perfect! $4.90 for a flasher and connectors. Just spliced them right in and connected them according to "page 8" of Ease's build page and voila!
    Thanks for the help fellas!
