I just received my new to me exhaust system for my 650 and straight to the garage i went. I came into the kitchen 10 minutes later after setting up the headers and exhaust pipes on my work bench for some serious cleaning of surface rust and grabbed the bottle of coke out of the fridge and the steel wool. I disappear again into the garage. Some time goes by and my wife brings me a glass with ice she thought I would probably need a refill of ice as it was hot this weekend. As she could see the difference on two of the pipes she was like "wow those look really different from when you pulled them out. Are you using just the steel wool?"

I then grabbed the glass and made myself a tall cool glass and started drinking. "Nope I put some coke on the steel wool then rub the pipes with that it cleans them up and pulls the rust right off." I then demonstrated for her and she could not believe the difference.

The look on her face as I drank my coke was priceless and then she says, "How can you drink that when it can do that to very rusty pipes?"

I too was a little skeptical of the idea of coke and FINE steel wool but what a difference it made on them. I want to emphasize the fine steel wool as it pulls the nasty off and babies the pipes at the same time.

Carbonated water, corn syrup, caramel coloring, Citric Acid!

How about just using non-abrasive Fast Orange hand cleaner?
and OOO steel wool? A comparison test is in order.

"On this pipe we used Folger's Crystals!"
