Broken Pilot Jet.

    Well , at lat I've managed it. Stripped the head of a pilot jet in a Mikuni. Had to happen one day.

    Any tips on removing a jet without a screwdriver slot?

    brass to aluminuim , if you want to keep reuse the jet , i think this will work , hammer , flat punch or a socket bar if it will fit as long as flat on the end.

    one tap at a time on the jet head , then if can get long nose pliers on it a twist..

    so a few shap taps at first , then one tap at a time [fairly hard but not a swing:)] and test if free after each tap , should free it up and of course if it does you can cut a new slot.......

    Left handed drill bit.
    Used them on several dozen mikuni carbs with that precise type of jet (a non bleed mikuni) ... of course the usual cautions ... drill the center and go slow ...

    Hoonz, Pilot jet is way down a tube and tiny. Too hard to get pliers into.

    Left handed drill bits would be great. But, Ive been looking for a set for about a year. Don't seem to be easily available down here. Although someone told me a couple of days ago that Snap-On might have some so am keeping my eye out for their van.

    Any other suggestions?

    They are available in auto zone in the US. You could try regular drill bits and easy out type screw extractor ... I dont like them cos they are tightening the screw and the extractor will spread the thing to the point where it may not come out ...

    Let's see here, I've seen left twist drill bits at Sears, Snap-On, Harbor Freight, and MAC tools. All of them are online, you should be able to order up there Goon. If you can't seem to get it, drop me a line and I'll get a set shipped off to you.

    Thanks Robert, May take you up on that offer if Snap-on here t5urns up nothing.

    Will try the easy-out option I think. If I have no success, then I have a spare set of carbs that I will just need to buy jets for. If I screw up this set it's not the end of the world.
