New guy! I have been lurking the last couple of days just to learn a little about the XJ.I acquired the site info through Goggle with (1982 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim)
My first post will start wih a question. I am looking at two bikes, 1981,and the other a 1982.They are both pretty equal as far as condition-miles and price. Are there any Pros/Cons between the year models? The reason I ask is I have a 79 SX 650,and there are some differences between years that make some models more desirable.Any input will be welcomed and when I do become a owner I will be a productive member of this group.
I recognised right away this is Great site.I am a member of the XS650 Garage and they also are very helpfull bunch.
    Thanks!

    welcome to the forum....

I don't believe there are any major differences between the years that would cause one to be a "better" bike.
I'd say get the bike that is in the best overall shape, ie: well taken care of.

As far as I know the YICS motor is more of a sport motor than the standard. I haven't had a chance to compare so I could be wrong. I have an 82 Maxim 750 with the YICS and love it to death even in the semi rough shape I got her in.
