I am looking for some suggestions on what I can use for mufflers on my bike. I just saw a mid 80s XJ ride by me and it had a nice deep sound to it, but not harley like.

Idea, I still currently have the original slip ons currently installed.

There are several diffrent options for mufflers on these bikes it depends on what you want to spend. You could spend several hundred on Jardine or Mac mufflers. Or you could find a pair of sportster mufflers and adapt them to your bike. I would assume they would work for your bike as they are almost the same system as the 650's. I could be wrong. There is also universal mufflers that you could custom fit to your bike but that could mean rejetting also. Don't know if I helped or not but thought I would throw out my 2 cents worth. Good luck!

That would be a place for the universal mufflers I was refering to. Also www.mikesxs.com sells them.

xyxj: Unless you want to restore the bike to as near original as possible, I would be looking at the best option for the least amount of money. But then, that's me! The site you mention deals with XS parts only unless I missed something.

I have got many and I mean many parts off there for other bikes and they work just fine. They just won't say it fits other models. You just have to do the cross referencing to find out which works on what. As far as the mufflers you can get 2 new universals for 100 or so dollars off there plus maybe 20 for both adapters if needed for a grand total of 120 compared to 2-300 for a pair of jardine slip ons. Even a set of stock used pipes for my xj650 are selling for 120 bucks plus shipping on ebay between 2-300 for a whole system. If yo look around long enough you may be able to find a deal. I got a nice stock system for 130 a few months ago.

I'll have to take some pics tonight of my full-size Harley mufflers on my bike. They only took about two hours to mount/weld on and I love the sound too. It is definately throaty but not hidiously loud.
