I've been doing some powder coating on the bikes here recently and thought I'd share my results.

    My FREE yard find.

I have looked at this a couple times since you posted it and I gotta say that that looks pretty cool. I never knew there were so many different color options with the powder coating. I may have to look into doing that with some of the parts on my bike in the future.

You can get any color you can imagine in powder coating. I've just had a ton of stuff coated and i'm waiting for my last few pieces to come back that have custom color in them. :)

can you be a bit more specific as to what you used? Oven, or gun? That looks awesome, and I've gotta ask, what do you mean by 'free' on that 1100? I need to get some powder coating done, but I am imagining you did it for cheaper than $30 a piece. That chrome looks awesome too. If you could, could you pm me with the info or post it for all to see?

The link in the quote above is the equipment that I purchased. I HIGHLY recommend these folks. I simply use a cheap toaster over I got from WalMart for the small stuff and will be using a garage sale $5.00 electric oven my dad picked up for the bigger stuff. The process is extremely easy with no overspray, no odor, and no long drying times. Part can be off the bike and back on within an hour.

YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE YOUR KITCHEN OVEN FOR THIS!

As far as the 'FREE' bike goes, it's kind of a long story. I found this bike rotting away in a gentlemen's yard on the west side of town. I spoke with him last summer as he had his house up for sale and I was hopping he would be willing to sell to avoid having to move a thousand pound non running bike. At that time, he was asking a grand for a bike that had been setting for nearly 10 years and was really no more than a parts bike. I, of course, balked at that. I did, however, kept and eye on it just in case.

As luck would have it, the house sold, the new owners moved in, but the bike never left. My mother, who worked across the street, was looking out for me and kept asking the new owners when the owner of the bike was going to come get it. Well, after several months of no action, after repeated attempts by the new home owners to have the bike moved, they told my mother that if I wanted it, come and get it.

I've spent the better part of the last six months cleaning and repairing this and that and am at the point now where it's ready for new paint. It's been a very rewarding project.

Thank you! I can't wait to see her with fresh paint. I'm planning a high gloss black with silver metal flake. She should look good as new.

That's also in the works. I had a Sheriff Officer friend of mine run the VIN and 10 year old tag number and I know who it's registered to. I spoke with him last summer during my initial attempt to get the bike and he was pretty excited about seeing his old bike restored. I will be contacting him again once complete to finish up.
