    Hi All,

I just had to brag where it could be appreciated!!

I stumbled upon this forum not too long ago and it has turned out to be a lifesaver. Not only is this a terrific place to learn, but the people here are the best. Parts from Chacal, carb tips, (clunk!) fuse tips, fuel filter - it's all goodness & a goldmine.

I put this bike away 12 years ago when my first child was born and my marriage was new
(I later traded my Pantera for a mini-van but thank God I kept my bike.)

When I pulled it out of storage the carbs were stuck solid, (turned out everthing was gunked up inside), the tank had rust, the brake calipers leaked/were frozen, and so on.
Here's a quick shot taken Sunday after I put the carbs back in for the second time in two days, slapped on the rest of the parts and fired it up. There's something to be said about "zestfully" clean and polished slider bores. This thing started right up on half choke and just screamed to be let out for a run. No helmet, no registration tags, no insurance but it was worth it. Damn I've missed riding this.

Up next, - detailing, new tires, valve adjustments (a little noisy in there) and fine tuning/syching the carbs.

By the way, anyone know where I can find a new windscreen for this?

    Again, - terrific forum!

Looks great man! Glad you got it running!

Try ebay, one of the greatest part sources around.

What kind of fairing is that? Is it factory?

You may try Gustaffsons Plastics out of Florida. I bought some Polycarbonate polish and polished my Vetter. Made a huge differance but I think it's time for a new one on mine aswell.
    Great looking bike.
You traded a Pantera for a minivan????? You must of had it bad for this woman.
I vowed way back when I would never, NEVER drive a minivan.

Yes, its factory - has the Yamaha logo cast in the fairing.

From a distance it looks okay, but there is cracking around a few mounting holes and a crack originating from a mtg hole about 3" long. I've superglued them to prevent further growth but I don't think it will last once the vibration of long rides takes its toll.

I went through nearly the same thing. My bike sat for 10 years when the kids were young and money was tight. I did start it every year and rode laps around the back yard! We're on our second Nerd-Mobile (mini-van) but we might be able to get something different soon as the kids are real close to leaving home age.

What part of the world are you from?

for a stock windscreen go to http://www.clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=73
Gustafsson Plastics http://www.bikescreen.com/index.html also sells windscreens but his do not have the same stock shape. His screens come straight up instead of that nice flip-up at the top of the stock screen. The straight up screen works great for wind protection, i have one so i know, but if you want the stock sporty look then go with the clearview brand.

    Hi RangerG,

I hail from San Jose, Calif. where we can pretty much ride 350 days of the year (if you don't like riding in rain) and if you don't mind the occasional 40 degree morning.

I know, I know most of you out there are thinking -Why stop then??
