Is there a way to get the front cover off of a speedo for an 82 Seca? Both screws holding the printed MPH numbers fell off and now the thing kinda spins around messing with the accuracy of the needle. All I need to do is screw them back in..... if I can. But something tells me I may need to get a new one.......

on my 81 maxim there is an outside crome cover that has 4 or 6 screws holding it on from the bottom side
these also hold the face plate to the inside assemblies

it is a pain in the butt because the screws also hold everything together so when putting it back together its a big pain

    it does come apart

hopefully the 82 seca is like the 81 maxim

all i can really say is pull it apart and see

does your 82 seca have the separate round dials, like my 80?
if so they are not meant to be removable, i had a screw come out & the only way to get at it was to gently pry the pressed flange open, replace the screw/s and crimp it back. i did it ok but it took quite a while & a lot of patience. there is a thread of mine, called "i've got a screw loose" good luck. thanks for the advice, it does have separate round gauges and after looking at it decided to replace the unit. Good thing Wisconsin Cycle Salvage is about 10 miles away from me and they really have just about everything an XJ-er could need, I highly recommend them. http://www.cyclesalvage.net/

I ended up cutting mine open and epoxying them back together to renew the faces, needles, and clean the glass. Mixed bag here. Speedo went from 5 over (like most) to dead on. Tach went from I don't know where (good) to not reading so well. Might end up getting the gauges at MikesXS after all is said and done.
