I just purchaced a Mint Maxim xj650. Everything looks like its pretty much stock...What would be some suggesions to change on the bike or what is the running history on the '82 650? Good bike? Bad bike? what problems can I expect? Thanks for any input.

Welcome! The bike is a good bike.. But then again ur askin' "fans of the XJ!"... Change out that old fuse panel with a newer one, N add an in-line fuel filter. R the 1st 2 things I would do other then fixing anything wrong with the bike.. ;) N u can score both of those things from chacal our resident parts guru! :D Good luck with the bike n remember 2 have fun n ride safe..

The same thing KAOS said. Fuse panel and filter. I would also suggest in the future a spin on oil filter kit from Chacal. I love it.

    Enjoy the new ride.

There might be some other things you would want to at least take a peek at depending on mileage...how many miles on the bike? Chacal is info @ XJ4ever.com (take out the spaces on either side of "@") or send him a PM through this board. Generally speaking the XJ is solidly engineered and from what I understand very reliable when kept up properly. I'm still "learning the ropes" XJ-wise myself, but continue to be quite impressed by it. Enjoy. Good folks on this board, too.

Post some pics and we'll gladly let you know if anything needs to be changed! :D

Probably not, though, especially if it's mint. The fuse panel is the only thing I've changed on mine so far.
