Is the Volt Meter on the "dash" of my 550 to be trusted???

    or is it just a "cartoon" or just measuring relative to something and not an accurate indication of actual output taking place?

    The only way to know for sure would be to hook up a multimeter to the battery to see what it's reading and what the bike is reading. Its a decent guesstimate.
    I knew that when my voltage was all the way to the left that I would not be able to bump start it... Even if I took out the tail lights to get all of the juice to the coils

    The volt meter on my Seca was a joke. It bounced all over so I never trusted it.

    You could probably use a meter across the battery and compare that to the reading of your bike's volt meter.

    The volt meter jumped all over the place till I replaced the old battery with a fresh one. Either it was the bad battery or a bad conection.
