    HEY GUYS AND GALS,

I think im gonna sell my seca. but i need some advice first. I am looking at either getting a Suzki bandit 1200 any year or a fairly new Yamaha FZ-1. I realize that I might be asking a bias group but i feel that you all will be honest versus other fourms. I love my seca but its too small
(for me that is, Im about 6'1" and 245lbs.) and im getting tired of working on it. every time i get it to where i want it something else needs to be replaced. but it is a daily driver soooo my question is WHICH WOULD BE THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK, THE 1200 BANDIT OR THE FZ-1?

    I apprecieate any advice
    thanks
    Josh

I took a 2008 Bandit 1250 for a test ride. Liquid cooled, fuel injected and ABS brakes. I plan to wait a few years and pick up a used '07 or '08.

yeah, I like the new bandits. The problem is i dont have that kind of money. Ive been looking for a 99-03 bandit. My problem is that i seems that once people get their hands on one they dont let it go for a while. the fz1 however is really easy to get ahold of but they are much more expensive even in the used catogory.

    thanks i appreciate you input

what would you say is a good price for .....lets say around the 2000 model. Im not really worried about mileage. Around here it seems people think their sh%* is made of gold. And lets face it you cant polish a turd, it just smears.

this question goes for everyone else as well
whats a good price on around a 2000 bandit 1200 or FZ1? mileage not being an issue for me, lets say 25-30,000 miles.

An 2000 Bandit 1200 goes 4 around: (As I read my local ads!) $3400-$4400 Depending on "Mileage/Condition".. But thats Maine!

Bandits have nice low and mid range torque. Actually, compared to a Seca, they have MASSIVE low and mid range torque.

    I haven't ridden an FZ1, so I can't comment on them.

    Either way, I don't think you'll be disappointed ;-)

Ha Ha , yea ive ridden a 2002 bandit and it was fun, too fun. Which is why i decided to wait on getting one. I found one at a dealer about a year and a half ago, with 6k for 3200 and after market goodies. I regret letting it go now.

I think theres a fz1 at a local shop. ill go try it out in a couple hours.

as far as my ride on the bandit, it was a while ago but i remember goin 90mph twisting the trottle and the front coming up.

then i got scared, it was the second bike i had ridden

in the meantime does anyone know about the fuel surging problems on the fz1?

that surging was supposed to be fixed by the dealers upgrading the computer.
pre 2006 used carbs, post 06 uses efi

    a used FZ1 <2006 is prob obtainable @ 4-5k
    >2006 is ~5-7k
    Depends on alot of factors.

What do you plan on doing with your bike? Sell it.
Damn, Lubbock is only like 12 hours away.

    UPDATE:
the fz1 at the local dealer sold so i didnt get to ride a fz1.

    thanks fault,

I heard that the release in europe was delayed in 06 because a test rider got a fuel surge which brought up the front wheel and he hit a car head on at 40mph and died.

As far as selling the seca.....i dont know, id have to find a bike before i could sell it because its my only mode of transportation.
I think i would want more than someone (especially xj members) would pay. Id sell it right now at the drop of a hat for 3000.

What do you think? what would be a good asking price? Answer as if you wouldnt buy. its a 1981 xj550h seca and I just turned over 19k miles. everything works execpt the blinker switch.

At this point as far as the FZ1 vs Bandit 1200 descision goes, It looks like whatever I can get the better deal on. Which means Im looking at '99 to'02 year models on both.

    thanks again fault
    Josh

Since we're on the subject of new bikes, I have just found a 1980 XS100 Special that I am thinking about. I am currently on a 82 XJ750 Maxim. I haven't been able to get to ride it yet as it is 3.5 hours from my house and I have been working all week. Anyone know the main differences in the Specials VS a XS100 standard or how much of a difference it would be from my Maxim? It looks about the same just a bit bigger.

Sorry, thought I was on topic with compairing bikes that are looking at being purchased. As far as the Bandit VS the FZ1 I would also sellect the Bandit depending on the year. The newer FZ1's from what I have seen and heard from some friends (not my style bike preference) from about 2006 on up are faster and a bit more agile. Couldn't say either way which has the upper hand.

no worries, i edited my posting as a realized i was being harsh for whatever reaseon.

Thanks for the info. So far it seems everyone is going with the bandit. As far as styling, Im not too excited about the quarter faring on the bandit and FZ1.

When I get one im going to take it off and put a large round chrome head light to make it like the xjr1300.

Its a much cleaner look i think.
