After losing interest and motivation working on my XJ I found this site. I have had it for about 3 years. 1st year was riding the piss out of it. 2nd year was tear down and replace clutch (burned out from PO), powder coat fenders, bars and replace lights, mirrors. 3rd year it just sat. I lost steam when I could not get the lights to flash after replacing them. Stumbled across the forum one night and realized the sweet bike that I really have. All the Bobbers and Cafe's are a wonderful inspiration. I would love to hardtail it but will have to wait. I want to give my kid a ride first.

Welcome to the site. I am also fairly new here and find this site to be a wealth of knowledge. If you're really getting stuck on something, let us know. Sometimes all it takes is someone fresh to take a quick look.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I don't like to go on forums much because of all the knotheads. But I will stay here for a while.

This site got me excited about my bike too. I recently bought my 81 Maxim as a temp until I could find a new/newer bike, but with all the support available here I've decided to keep on with this ride.

Had an 82 Maxim back when I was Minneapolitan in the '90s. Glad to be riding again. I do feel bad you guys in MN with < 6 month riding season.

Thanks to all you folks putting in the time to share your knowledge.

Since I just figured how to load pictures here is what I have worked on fixing this week.

The black box is hiding all the wiring and I made a bracket from some scrap that I had. I got the turn signals working, from advice form the site. THANK YOU!! Still have to get the carbs back in and some fine tuning.

Hey what kind of lights are those and how much power do they draw. I would like to take my square fog light off of my Black 750 and add a few lights like that. Cool

Yay, yet another Minnesotan... Sheesh, I think I'm the only one from Iowa on this site! :)

Funny thing is, I drove up from Des Moines to St. Paul to buy my Maxim... Might have to wander up and play with you guys some weekend since there doesn't seem to be anyone down here...

    Hey Wraith,

You are welcome any time to come up here and hang out. This Saturday there might be a ride happening. PainterD from St. Cloud is coming down to the cities and maybe if we get enough guys to dust off their bikes we are going to cruz the St. Croix Valley. Check the Central forum and let him know if your up for a ride. Hope to see ya there.

I really like the dual headlight setup... do you have a fairing of some sort to put over them?

I picked them up at work and they are from PM Lighting. They have to much of a yellow tint for me. I have not tested the amp draw yet, they are standard 55w bulbs.

I have not found a fairing that I like yet. I will be lowering the gauge cluster and mount it from the bottom instead of the top. I have to drop the ignition switch first. I used a box from Radioshack for the wiring with four holes cut outs.
