    hey guys
    good news and bad

    GOOD
carb part to arrive midweek, THIS WEEK!!!! excited, gotta reasseble the carb, as to get the broken part off i kinda broke the rack, lossened a few screws, pulled off a carb and such, no worries.

    BAD
the seals on my fuel bowls are as my auto mechanic would "der SHOT"
so any tips on a gasket kit to pick up cut my own maybe? speed is the concern at this point, get done fast summer waining.

    ?????'s
gotta bench sync the carbs, i think i though i read use a 1/4 strip of a 3x5 card is that right?

also cleaned out the carb preety good there is a definite clunk when dropping the slides, should there be some resistance or none? one of the carbs has a slight resistance to it, any tips on a good polishing or cleaning? i heard a soak in lemon juice or seafoam, and i though i heard somebody mention using a scotch brit pad or something for a (shutter) dremel?

and is there anything i can do to clean up the boots on this thing? the rummer from the air box to the carb is kinda greasy, but still soft with no evidence of cracks or leaks.

    thanks and such

I used some gasket material that's rated for fuel use and cut my own float bowl gaskets. I think this would be the fastest way to get you going!

I tried cutting gaskets once, but it didn't really turn out all that well, so I opted to get new ones. Not sure what kind of bike you have, so I can't quote Chacal's part list to give you pricing.

As for the carb bores, as little resistance as possible. If they drop like a rock even with the carbs tilted at an angle, you're doing good.

The first time I polished I used a strip of 600 grit sandpaper with a shot of WD-40. Sand down 1/4 of the bore at a time, wipe it down, then change to another strip and repeat the process. This alone will do wonders, although you can finish up with the dremel tool and its flex-wand attachment if you're so inclined. If you do, you'll probably want a lot of those little buffing wheels, along with the appropriate polishing compounds.

Oh, and as for the bench sync, yes; strip from a 3x5 card, business card, or I used the wire from a twist tie. Any of these or something similar will do, as long as the gap is uniform when you're done. It won't be perfect, but it'll be close enough to get you started so you can do the vacuum sync.
