    Thanks.

I wasn't going to replace them anyways but now I have piece of mind. I would say 'peace' but that doesn't really describe how I feel as accurately.

I am so close to putting this bike on the plane to frankfurt. I truly can't wait.

tonight I'm going to put the chain on and set the timing. It doesn't look like it's going to be too hard. Here's a pic of the engine this morning.

You're lookin' pretty good from what I can see in the photo!
Looks like there's been plenty of attention to details.

That's separates the men from the boys!
I hope you get it running as good as you have it looking.

You and me too Rick. Believe me when I tell you there is not a bolt on this bike that hasn't been touched, replaced, or reconditioned by me. For all intents and purposes this bike is brand new again. It better work or my trip to Europe is going to really suck. Not to mention I would look like a complete idiot driving a Canada bike in Canada. We're not the most patriotic group of people.

So this is what she looks like yesterday:

If you want to hear her running click here and start the video. She is the loudest XJ you have ever heard:

    http://elvisonthemove.blogspot.com/2008 ... ll-me.html

So right after the video was taken I ran her a few more times until she seized on me. I pulled open the valve cover to see I was missing a cam chain sprocket on the exhaust cam. The casting was cracked across one of the bolt holes but the other one looked untouched. The sprocket blew into 5 pieces. Two halves and some debris.

I am thinking one of the bolts holding the sprocket on backed off somehow and the imbalance caused the sprocket to shear. I pulled off the heads and the cylinders and spent about four hours fishing all the metal out of my bike. The crank sprocket looks fine. It didn't really get run with the brocken sprocket because the front chain guide wedged into the crank sprocket and prevented the engine from being turned over. I put the bike in gear and pushed the tire backwards to get the guide out of the sprocket. It was really wedged in there.

Needless to say I'm going to put her back together tonight and try again. I'll use a cam, sprocket, and guide out of a spare engine.

What could have caused this? I put the chain back in and there was no slack. And cranked the cam over a few times and the timing marks maintained their positions. Give me some ideas guys. I'm truly stumped.
