"guts" that will fit the housing? '81 Seca 550; the stock speedo has to go. Are Australian and/or NZ speedometers in Kliks or MPH? This sux, I can't tell how fast I'm going (yeah, ok, over 80 but HOW OVER???) Plus I think extended running with it more than pegged mighta hurt it...maybe if I pull out the stop pin and mark some additional gradients around the bottom it could just go around and around like an airplane altimeter...

I dont know about these speedometers but on various other gauges ive use on other projects you cant just mark extra lines. The gauges are on a certain ratio and work to where they max out, after that they become less and less accurate.

But like i said that may or may not be the case for these i dont know. But running with it pegged out, my buddy has a kz1000 (i think) and rode it pegged at 120 and broke the speedo so be careful

just curios Fitz where do you really need to go over 80 with all the freak'in nuts in cages that talk thier phones and never pay any attention?? Unless you have a secret track bike.. I know I know it is sooo hard to resist crankin the throttle open and hearing these engine growl. B careful out there whilst you are cruising about. I am sure you will come across a speedo. Since I don't know either I will ask will not an 1985 speedo work out or did they radically change the style of the speedo on your model? I know my '85 X speedo goes higher than 85 but I haven't had her up that far much and if/when I do that absolute last thing on my mind is looking down away from the road to see how fast I am going. I am always positive the police man will inform me of that info if I get caught.

Cows-n-Pigs-n-Chickens=Capac. Between Port Huron and Lapeer, just east of Imlay City. Da boonies. Owning my Norton for the last 34 years is one of the reasons I live out here. I would never run that fast in a populated area. I'm not advocating speeding nor guilty of it often, BUT at dawn on Sunday morning...there are stretches of road out here where there ARE NO HOUSES EVEN just fields and woods so deer are the main concern. Over 80 can well, occur, I really need to know HOW over 80...I don't usually run the Nort up past 90, but it happens. I've pegged the clock on the Seca a couple of times and it's disconcerting not knowing how fast you're going. Yes it can be judged relatively, but remember the 85MPH speedo was a misguided "energy conservation" initiative, not an equally unfounded "safety" device. I'm looking for a UK speedo...
