As some of you know, I got some "Old School Carbs" recently
    Take a look http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=11913.html
And they need a TRUE Old School Cleaning.

I finally got the chrome dome screws out(with the help of a full can of penetrating oil and some lineman pliers)
I then pulled the dome and spring off. Unseated the diaphram. and bad news hits!!!
The Darn slides are stuck :!:
I proceed to hit with carb cleaner and let it evaporate, then I hit it with penetrating oil(Napa's) while carbs are leaned at an angle for better oil coverage.

So far thats what I have done!

My question is; What else can I do to remove this slide? Or possibly the others too.
    Carbs are HiTots.

    Yikes!
You have a royal mess on your hands Fault, have you tried the lemon juice trick yet? I haven't but there have been a few folks in the last few months who have claimed success with this method. Boil them in lemon juice and everything should clean up and free up those sliders. My method would involve getting a good cleaner to degum the slider bores but the down side is that the diaphragms don't like that stuff. Got to be careful using carb cleaner.
    Best of luck on those.

Great point Robert. I will try to avoid that.

I have not boiled the bodies in Lemon Juice yet, I was worried about the rubber parts.
Looks like I have no choice in the matter.
I will attempt to break the rack and soak these dirty carbs, filthy-dirty-kinky carbs in a long bath of Lemonness goodness.

**Edit ON the upside I will have little to worry about when I pull my working carbs off the Seca.
And if all goes well I will have two working racks, but I wont hold my breath.

This sounds drastic, but it does work. You will need two sets of hands for this, a young child or wife will do. ;-) Get a small piece of wood that will rest in the intake side of the carb. Once you have that fabricated, get a flat head screw driver and using the wood as a fulcrum, GENTLY apply pressure to the bottom of the slide while the other person applies copious amounts of carb cleaner to the slides. You only need to get them to move a little then the carb cleaner can do the rest. REMEMBER! GENTLE PRESSURE is all you need.

I got a spare set of carbs for the Maxim X from the US last year. All four slides were stuck solid.

With the carbs tilted upside down, I used an artists paint brush dipped in cellulose (paint) thinners to introduce a bead of thinners between the carb body and the slider.

Within a few minutes they were sliding free enough that I could remove and then totally clean them.

I don't know what additives are in US gas but cellulose thinners seems to dissolve it easily.

Obviously, keep CT off the rubber diaphragms, don't flood the area or immerse the carb body.

    Nice idea Michael
A shim of wood between the screwdriver and the slides might help too.

beware that lemon juice will not only clean your carbs but it also makes your stuff want to rust very easily from there on.
