I'm currently working on an 84 seca. I have had the carbs apart and cleaned them with carb cleaner and installed the rebuild kit. the bike still won't idle off chock and seems to be surging. intake holders look good and have no seeable cracks. I took it in to have the dealer sync the carbs but they wern't too interested in doing the job said the system had air leaks. The only hole is in the intake from the filter to the carbs. I'm wondering if the primary jets that hide behind some caps that my manual says NEVER TO REMOVE are causing me some headachs? I need some good experienced advice before I proceed any further. Like where do these jet reside? What cap do I remove? Plus after removal and cleaning what is the routine in resetting them? I have attached a picture and I think that the brass cap to the left of the choke is where the jet resides.

The jets that are hidden behind those DO NOT EVER REMOVE anti-tamper caps are actually the idle mixture (or "pilot mixture") screws, and yes, you'll need to remove the caps in order to get to them and adjust them!

The picture didn't show up, but yes it is a flt brass "plug" or cap that is located on the front top of the carb, it's actually the forward-most object on the carb body (Mikuni). There are quit a number of great threads within this wbsite that give you complete carb teardown and rebuild instructions.

To do some Fine-tuning ... those Plugs need to come out.
    Be careful.
The actual Screw Top is just below the Plug which isn't very deep.
You have to drill a small hole ... dead center and NOT let the drill contact the Brass Screw beneath.

    Your Carbs are Virgin.
Having virgin Pilot Mixture Screws is a BIG PLUS!

After you drill a small hole in the Plug ... extract it!
Grind the sharp tip off a Drywall Screw and screw the drywall screw into the Plug.
Grab the drywall screw with Vice Grips.
Impact the lower side of the Vice Grips and drag-out that pressed-in Plug.

When you are drilling ... let the drill do all the work.
Don't apply strong pressure for a fast cut.
As soon as you FEEL the drill break through ... Back off.

    Get the Plugs out.
Oil the tops of the screws with light machine oil or Marvel Mystery Oil.

Then, get back to us letting us know how you did.
    Take your time.
Remember ... don't bung-up the slot of the Mixture Screw by hitting it with the drill.

Alternatively, you can use a Dremel and Grind out the Plug.
