New here and was told about this place by KhunDan. I'm right outside of Bangkok in Thailand. Below is a couple of pics of the bike I'm thinking of picking up. I originally told Dan about it but the guy won't come down on the price and Dan just wants it for parts so I might pick it up as a project.

I'm trying to get a better idea of exactly what year it is and if you guys think it's worth it. It's hasn't been registered for 4 years or run int that time. Dan said the guy told him it hadn't run in 2 years and since I don't speak Thai, I didn't ask.

Cost to buy and register: $400

I thought it very odd that there is only 3 digits for the engine # and looks to be more in a rubber type of solution rather than stamped into the metal.

Thanks for any help you can supply.

    Cheers,

    SnakeDoctor

Welcome SnakeDoctor. The pictures didn't attach :(. It's quite possible they were too large in file size. Ideally you want the pics to be 640x480 and under 100KB in size. This way they are somewhat web friendly for our dial up users. Try posting them in our Test Zone forum http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewforum/f=6.html and once it works there post them here .

    What is it?

    Hello to all,

I'm living in Bangkok, Thailand now from Hawaii. I'm thinking of picking up this bike but not positive of what it is.

    Frame # 5G8-000711

    Eng. # 5G8

I did find it odd that the engine # was only 3 symbols and can't find anyplace to look up this bike. Can anyone help me out on this. I will try to post some pics. It does have the YICS name on the valve cover. I'm pretty sure it and 81 or 82 XJ750. I also would like some kind of drawings to make the YICS tool or even pics of the actual Yamaha carb tool would be nice.

    Thanks,

    SnakeDoctor

    XJ750A

    Serial Number: 5G8 000101 to 5G8 010000
    Engine Number: 5G8
    Year: 1981

Japanese market XJ750. Not the fuelie, which looks exactly like the 650 turbo.

The fuel injected one has an engine number 22N. It's the XJ750D

    Re: What is it?

In the description of the YICS tube it says that the XJs with YICS came out in the 82 models instead of the 81, I'm guessing the Japanese tried out the YICS system on the 81 model in Japan first before sending this model out to the states.

KhunDan is another guy here in Thailand and he has a YICS XJ750. He's been having carb problems of late and I was wondering if anyone had come up with an alternative system rather than the YICS? Would it be possible to switch to a different carb setup that isn't as hard to maintain?

Having some trouble getting CLEAR paperwork for this bike right now and with the guy not coming down on the purchase price ($350 + 5 years back taxes + 20% penalty) the bike is looking as if it will be too expensive to get going again. Yamahas are not to plentiful here in Thailand, so getting parts here can be a pain in the butt.

I will have to check it out more. Thanks for the info.

    Merging topics...

SnakeDoctor, it seems Dean already identified your bike in the previous post which I have moved to the XJ Chat forum.

Sorry about that, don't know how that happened.
