Brilliant Dan, thank you.
Yep, it's the perennial disintegrating starter and alternator ("primary") chain guide. But the old one (it's a 1981 or 82 UK XJ750) used three...
A 'Good Ol' Boy' indeed, is Paul.
Thank you, that's brilliant; just what I needed. I see you are quite local to me, so we might see each other on the road, both crisply changing gear!
I could do, but I do not want risk cracking the casing; that's why I asked if there is some trick to removing it, having been caught out by...
It can't. The clip is recessed and must be fitted before the pivot is put into the casing. This means that the pivot has to come out on the inside.
There's a retaining circlip on the inside, (part 15) so I don't think that will work.
I have the rear set gear linkage on my XJ. There's a lot of slop in the various parts of the mechanism. I think I've found a local place where I...
Okay David, thanks.
Thank you David. Just to check, is that on a fairly unworn stand?
I have an XJ750 that doesn't have the original engine. This engine had sat for some time (I presume at a breaker's) and there was rust damage,...
Hi Brent no, I mean the centre stand. The diagram shows its right hand side. The side stand is next on the list of jobs.
Here's a diagram if I wasn't clear.[ATTACH]
I'm repairing my centre stand. It is so worn that I cannot establish the angle it should be at, as new. So if anybody can tell me the angle the...
That's a much better shot than the previous version, but you've got me thinking about where to go now. The only thing is, my XJ is off the road....
Okay, thanks Jose. I'll not be able to do mine until the BSA is all back together and I've got some room on the work bench.
Is that the Haynes manual or another one? Do you mean that the chain guide can be got at and replaced just by removing the oil pan and nothing...
I've just taken the side cover off (See above post). There are two lumps of chain guide rubber visible through the hole. Each one is about half an...
I'm another one with a bike that got stuck in first gear, just today. I pulled into a cafe car park about ten miles from home when it happened. I...
Cliffy B, I like the red and black paint scheme. Most unusual.
This week I had to buy new brake pistons and seals for my 1982 XJ650/750, model 4K0. I emailed Yambits...
It's an even better match for the typical rally field, though it's not supposed to be a camo colour! I spent this weekend at a rally at the St...
:)
They are Craven brand panniers, but not on a Craven rack. The two top mounts on each side are the original Craven ones, but the bottom mount on...
My XJ750 is adapted to be practical and useful. I've had hard panniers on my bikes for quite a few years now; I don't see the point of having a...
Fortunately the pillboxes above didn't have to be used, and neither did these two here. [ATTACH] Royal Observer Corps post, for use in case of...
[ATTACH] this is further South and nearer to Ampthill, but on the same old Bedford road. [ATTACH] Ampthill is at the bottom of the hill. In the...
[ATTACH] This is a pillbox between Ampthill and Bedford in Bedfordshire. It's six sided. there are embrasures on five sides, (you can see them...
[ATTACH] Still at Podington, this is the monument from the other side. You can just see my bike to the left of the flag pole, behind the fence. I...
Must have been a very high tide... Anyhow, here are a few photos from the old RAF Podington airfield, which was used by the USAAF in WW2....
I think it's possible to reassemble the carb bank in such a way that the throttle linkage is blocked from dropping to the idle position. I think...
lostboy, they let us English types play, so you should be alright. I was only just thinking yesterday that it about time I put a few more shots in...
biggs500, often you can shade the lens with your fingers. Bring the fingers just into frame, then move them back up a bit. In this case, you might...
It has happened again. My password was not recognised and I had to apply for a new one. This happens every time I am away from the forum for a...
Yep, for an engine transplant.
Make sure you get the carbs too, and the ignition module.
It looks like the bike in the top picture has wiring joints made using those conical screw on connections. They used to be common in mains wiring...
Can I put XJ600s (called a Diversion, at least in the UK) clocks (gauges) on an XJ750? The XJ750 tacho takes a signal from one of the coil wires,...
@ SnoSheriff: "The passwords were screwed up after the software migration about 6months ago. Since then, the passwords do not change unless they...
@ bigfitz52: "Dammit. Between the airfields, the actual Bletchley Park back gate (!) and a Gettysburg battlefield site with cannon you guys have...
Since It seems that, this thread apart, I haven't made a post since October 2014, that is probably it. Thanks, SnoSheriff.
No, it's always on the same computer.
I've just had to reset my password, again. I haven't wrongly entered the password, not after numerous tries to make sure. That's what happened...
Mine started off as an XJ650, but it now has an XJ750 engine.
Since I have a few photos that I couldn't post in bigfitz52's post of military relics with the poster's bike in the shot, even by really...
Xj750 engine, Xj650 rolling chassis
I am only after a speedo, but the tacho is an electronic one. It was a mechanical one, but I pulled it apart and replaced the internals including...
I'm in need of a speedo; the one I have under reads by 12 mph which meant that I got a speeding ticket. Since I run a rat bike, I do not care if...
I went to just the right airfield, then. Excellent. Here are a couple more, this time very local to me. [ATTACH] This pillbox was built in...
