Not sure what you mean with 'steel bars' otherwise maybe I could tell you :-)
Also don't pull the cam caps one by one but unbolt them all evenly. And also don't mix up the buckets. I always take the cams completely out,...
https://xjbikes.com/forums/threads/tech-topic-model-id-and-vins.14577/ This will help.
Well I would say lucky that this did not happen to you on the highway in a corner. But for the rest, of course not lucky...
That's a PITA but you're also very lucky...
No, the setting can be different. The way I do it (if I use the colortune because I found it hard to use with an X) is turn the screws out until...
The Carmo cdi didn't work properly, so that was a bummer... But I took some some pictures of the backside. Didn't look very organized back there...
Ik looks very clean! Tomorrow I'm going to install a Carmo cdi so then I can take more photos but maybe these will help.
The carbs at the picture are not the Mikuni carbs of the X. The X doesn't have these rubber plugs. Nice that it runs now.
The X is very sensitive to the carburation. When not clean or setup correctly it's very possible it won't show any life when trying tot start.
Hi Dave, maybe this can help you https://xjbikes.com/forums/threads/tech-topic-model-id-and-vins.14577/ Chacal (xjforever) can help you with...
Hahaha, sorry just had a visual
Looking good! I've had a few aftermarket handlebars on my X. They looked good but now I'm back to stock. The way the original handlebars are...
I've build one similar to the one your building. Worth every penny!
It's the original factory service manual. As for your plugs, a lean mixture causes the engine to run hot. I would turn the screws 1/4 turn out on...
Is this different for different models? For my X I always measure with the piston at TDC. I hope I didn't do it the wrong way...[ATTACH]
So just ride it, no danger there.
+1 When I rebuild my carbs I used penetrating oil, heat, tried to rock them loose and ended up using brute force with vise-grips. Man those...
Wow you've done a lot more than I realized before. Respect!
Well then I think hogfiddles wins the grand prize!
Wow, that's good news!
Well it does, mine is an almost new OEM petcock.
I found this in another thread, so I think yours is okay. * approximately 500-2000 rpms: 1.8 volts gradually increasing to 14.2 volts * 2000+...
Also take a look at this thread: https://xjbikes.com/forums/threads/morning-start-issues.130261/
It takes a few minutes to warm up, maybe you need the choke (enricher) a bit longer to keep the rpm higher until the engine is warmed up and...
But it starts doesn't it? And is the bike warmed up when you try to put it in gear? How high is your idle?
Should have read better, sorry just got out of bed :-) you already changed your oil.
Before you do anything first check your oil level, there is a sight glass on the right side of the engine. There should be a little bubble at the...
Another fun website is maxim-x.com, lots of info and magazine articles about the X.
Cool, another X owner! I'm sure you're gonna love this little rocked. Above 7500 rpm you better hold on to that handle bars! Especially because...
Made the supports for the Dyna's installed in the original bracket as shown on Harald's website maxim-x.com Much better than the cable ties I use...
Tank was off so did a little test. The OEM petcock with 20 inch fuel line hanging down takes about 40 seconds to pass 1 liter of fuel.
+1
My 700x has run almost 50k miles by now. I'm planning to keep this one maybe aside another bike. It still runs strong but I'm wondering if I...
The manual for the 700x says 26.600 miles but I think the 15k that you mentioned is a wiser choice...
Lots of busy roads with lots of small towns here so maximum of 2 hours and about 80 miles. 55 now but when I was 35 it was about the same.
Maybe it's a much too simple thought but can't you rule out the petcock and fuel line just by doing a flow test? So measure the amount of fuel...
Interesting...
If this would be the problem then why would it run good for the first 15 miles.
Same method, better tool!
A socket with a c clamp might give a lot of downforce but it isn't very controllable, there will be more force on one side than the other causing...
Bummer... Did you check your valve clearances somewhere down the road? Or maybe all it needs is some more running?
Sorry that's only true for the vacuum operated petcock which doesn't have a 'off' position. Yours will always let fuel through if the carbs leak...
Hi Richard, Congrats with your bike and you'll find this forum very helpful. I don't have a 650 but think I can answer 3 of you're questions. If...
Took a while but finally had the time for a long 3 hour ride. First last week I did final adjustments to the idle mixture related to the spark...
What it looks like on mine.
[ATTACH]
Oh no, brain fart... The hole is just for sticking in a screwdriver to pull out the axle so nothing has to be in there. Can you make a better...
It looks like a bolt in the axle? And the zip tie to hold it in place? Someone has been creative over there... Take ik out and put in a cotter pin...
Nice that this bike stays in the family! Have fun and plenty of info and/or advice here to keep the bike in good shape.
