Starter buttons on these bikes are notoriously crappy and fail often.
Welcome back from another MIA! What? You have problems with in-laws? I find that hard to believe!
Thanks for the welcome, K-moe! Everyone else probably forgot who I was..LOL!
Been a long while...actually since the old forum went down. I like the new format, and good to be back!
Back online on the new forum!
Hi guys, good to be back! Been "predisposed" for the last year or so, long story, but I've still got the Seca 550 and I'm still working on it....
That's kinda what I figured. No biggie; I'll just do it over. I need the practice anyway.
....with and without the YICS tool? I was adjusting my mixture using the Colortune the other day, and forgot (duh!) to use the YICS tool.....I...
Sweet bike! Thanks for keeping another one up & running!
Whew! :D
Can I make a suggestion (after my warm welcome)? Since your bike is pristine & original, why not keep it that way and continue looking for a...
Welcome to the forum!
Because if they couldn't, they would likely not bother posting here and we might miss out on some cool stuff that they might not know is worth...
Oil and water.
Do it according to the Church of Clean, and it WILL be the last time. Take shortcuts....you'll be doing it again. Trust me.
Yep. +1 on Rick. OR....you can install a Heli-Coil and use the existing drain plug.
Valve clearance should be checked every 5k
Probably. They start right up, IF the carbs are just right, strong battery that is fully charged. The carbs are definitely the place to start....
'83 GPZ 1100.....both highly collectible and sought after, and worth a lot of bucks to the seekers. You have a real classic on your hands there....
I shouldn't have yesterday, and I shouldn't have today either, plate being expired and all...but I took her around the block a couple times after...
Compressions are about as close as you could get them on a real, live engine. Your problem is fuel-related
Gas in the oil won't hurt anything as long as you didn't run it. Change the oil and filter, squirt a couple shots down each plug hole and turn it...
Thanks for a great idea! I was gonna chuck my old manifolds in the trash.....no more! One carb stand coming up!
I just had to. I really shouldn't have (how many times have we heard THAT line?) but I just couldn't resist..... She's been running so good on...
Chacal at XJ4Ever has every replacement part ever created, and then some. Click on the XJ4Ever link in the upper RH corner of the home page and be...
Obviously, compression check would show if #3 is up to snuff and equal with the others. It will also give you a snapshot of your valves at a...
\ I do understand this....I was in the same boat a year or so ago. However, it needs to be understood that any type of repair on intake...
+1 on Polock's comment You shouldn't leave a plugged tire on, but if it means leaving the bike or pushing it....plug it.
With all the threads on this site concerning idling, mixture, starting and running problems, I find it hard to believe it is so difficult to...
Looks like my kind of project! Best of luck, and keep us updated on the build!
Ditto on the welcome!
They are not hard to find. Chacal has them at XJ4Ever. Repairing is a waste of time IMHO. If they are cracked, they are probably hard as a rock....
Pix are a must for any resto thread!
Here is how mine bolt up; also a four-into-one (Gemini) system. The original half-moons are not used. [img] IMAG0373 by buellosaurusrex, on Flickr
You don't need float pillars...they are permanently attached (unless you drop the carb with the bowl off....then they are permanently DE-tached)....
Oh yeah....forgot to mention; she lights with a touch of the starter button now! :D
Seca gets new shoes! THE OLD: [img] IMAG0379 by buellosaurusrex, on Flickr [img] IMAG0377 by buellosaurusrex, on Flickr BAREFOOT:...

Ahh, yes....the grin that never ends! You will still have it tonight in your sleep.....
That's a Maxim X, right? Super-quick bike. I got one up and running for a guy then tuned it for him. Surprised the crap outta both of us!
Thanks for a detailed pictorial! While my Seca 550 doesn't have anti-dive, I can see how this would be a real mother for anyone trying to look at...
You're gettin' there!
Damn shame, but here in Illinois, a bike without a title is an assembled basket case.
Since the XJ's have a notoriously weak ignition system, I'm gonna go with that...... Bad brushes in the starter can seriously draw from available...
Compressed air has always worked for me. No grease to clean up, either.
