Well guys, I've been idle on the forum for far too long as my life has been completely turned around over the past year. But that's another story for another forum. I've moved to Annapolis MD and have now aquired my grandfather's old 1970 CS-3. It has not run since 1996 and has been sitting in the back of his barn since. Given that I'm the olny one in the family that seems to like motorcycles it has come to me and I'm now the guy responsible for restoring this old girl. So I thought I would come on here and consult my experts. So far I have started the engine to ensure it does in fact run. I also ran it thru the gears while on the stand to ensure the tranny is ok. Engine and tranny check out as good. So on to the list of things to do.

    1) Brakes. Drums are getting replaced no matter what. I have located the parts and will be ordering soon.
    2) Tires. The front is the original, the rear is DOT 90. Both are getting replaced. Anyone have any recommendations for good tube style tires as well as good tube brands?
    3) New chain, the chain has been idle for 25 years. Not taking a chance with it.
    4) Tune up. Yes it runs, but lets just say VW has nothing on this bike... I could use some help sourcing a carb rebuild kit. Know it has Mikuni VM20 carbs, which Mikuni seems to still make, but I can't seem to locate rebuild kits.
    5) Bearings, trying to source some, but plan to replace wheel bearings at minimum.
    6) Overall rust removal. For the most part the bike is in great shape. But there is some surface rust that needs tending.
    7) Replace fuel lines and oil lines. Exsisting ones are hard as a rock.

Basically, at this point the plan is to take it almost to the frame and rebuild so that hopefully I can end up with a neat old bike to putz around on on the nice days. So any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

Sweet man! I learned on an early 70's DT360, really like those old 2 strokes.
