The instrument clusters are a bt finicky on these but are you sure the bulbs are not blown? Did you remove them and check for corrosion in the little sockets?

The reason your warning light flashes after the system check is because these bikes used a special battery that had a lead in one of the cells that attached to a lead from the instrument cluster that measured the battery voltage. Most owners just replace the battery with one of equal size and voltage because they are cheaper and they leave off the lead. So after the system check, just hit the button on the right and it will shut off the blinking light.

Your lower light (the aux light) is probably blown. You can get them off ebay or Chacal from this site probably carries them.

What do you mean by "engine cover". Are you talking about the plastics that sports bikes have? If so, then the answer is no. But there are fairings that you can get for these bikes. Not nearly as sleek as the sport bikes or the modern sport/tourers, but still pretty nice to keep some air off of you while you ride.

    Welcome to the club.

i took the bulbs out and put them in the turn signal sockets and they came right on so its not the bulbs. i figured out i have to push the warning button twice to get the light to stop blinking. will try replaceing lower HL bulb. i have no fuses in my fuse box under the seat, the wires are taped together, was like that when i bought it. how can go about fixing that? also my clutch handle is really hard to pull, left my hand swollen after one day of trying to learn how to ride. any way to loosen it up? i tried the cable screw but didnt make any difference either way i turned it. thanks for schoolin me on some things.

The clutch is mechanical, and the adjustment on the handlebar is just for the free play on the lever. It's not actually adjusting the force. The only way to change the force is to change the length of the lever, but then you'll have to move it farther to compensate. Easiest method is to ride more. Seriously, ride more and you'll build up those forearm muscles. In a couple weeks you'll build up the strength and not even have to worry about it.

Sounds to me like you need a new clutch cable and you NEED to put in a fuse box, without fuses you could burn up much more expensive parts than a new fuse
    this will help http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=6350/

Jaymckn, you ought to replace all of the bulbs in the headlight cluster since you have it open. Cheap insurance so you don't have to go back in a short time later to replace another one of those old bulbs.
You NEED to get that fuse block in place ASAP! I wouldn't ride or even run the bike until you do. An electrical fire is not a pleasant way to get to know your bike.
Itom32, I responded to your other threadjack. It is possible but requires a great deal of electrical know-how and patience.
