I was just looking at the vin number decoding post and was going through all the models and serial numbers of all the maxims and seca's I or friends own, and when I got to the 81' 750's there was nothing said about any 750 Maxims being made in Canada. I googled it and when I didn't find anything I texted him and he's pretty sure that the ownerships says its a 81' 750 maxim (not that he would know, he's never even been on this site.... Not like I havn't shown it to him 50 times) . So my question to all you guru's out there is; is there a 81' 750 maxim or not?

    Thanks
    Bob

Yamaha "introduced" the Seca 550 and Seca 750 for 1981, both with YICS motors. They were still selling the Maxim 650 (pre-Yics.) The Maxim 750 wasn't introduced into the USA market until 1982. I can't say for sure if they did any Canadian market 750 Maxims in '81; I kinda doubt it though.

You can use the formulas in the article you mentioned http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14577.html to take his "shorty VIN" and tell him exactly what it is.

    Cool, thanks Fitz
His bike is about 3 hours away right now so the shorty vin will have to wait.... But in due time
