I have a chance to get a non-running Seca as a parts bike for my Maxim. Can anyone tell me what will be interchangeable and what will not? I'm not exactly sure what the differences between the models are, and I don't know where to find out.

Also, is $250 too much to pay for an almost complete Seca with a seized engine?

Sorry noone has replied to you yet. As far as I know the seat and grab rails are not interchangable. The engines are as well as the electrics; Starter, reluctors, stator, voltage regulator, rectifer, various relays and the oil level sending switch. Front wheel will but don't know about the calipers. The bracket may be different or may not. But even so the front forks would swap out. I don't think the rear wheel will. Don't know the problem here but remember someone have trouble with it. The rear brake shoes and drum will.
If there was anything in paticular you were thinging of using then ask about it specifically and we'll check on it.

Bunch of parts work between the bikes. I have a set of 81 Max and Seca. Most all the electrical swap, some motor parts (650 to 750 isn't a possibility but the swap is possible). I'd scoop it up if I were you.

Personally, I'd buy the Seca and fix/find a motor for it if it's really 'almost complete.' But yeah, if you've got a place to store it, snatch it up.

if the seca is a 1982 650rj, then I don't think the frot end will swap. I usually go to the Yamaha parts catalog just to eyeball stuff to see if it looks similar.

Since you didn't say, I was assuming it was a 750 Seca parts bike for a 750 Maxim '82. Need some more info on this. Year and model of teh Seca please!

Well it was a 1982 750 Seca with a seized engine for my 1982 750 Maxim, but I may have missed the ball on it. I'll see if it's still available, I just cleared up some storage room so I actually have a place to store it. Thanks everyone.

Edit: Thanks for all the help guys. A general question: what is the difference between the seca and maxim models? I understand that one is supposed to be more sporty, but does that extend past the syling and lower controls? Is the suspension different, grame geometry, etc? Thanks.

Yes. The suspension is different on the front forks. They have an antidive mechanism. However the forks will still fit your Maxim. The rear shocks are different but it is just a different schock. Someone wit the facts on the frame will post those differences.

A couple questions, Im doing just the opposite of what egor is doing(good seca, maxim for parts).....
I have an 82 xj750 seca, I bought an 81 xj750 maxim parts bike for it. I replaced the antidive forks with the maxim forks(Bad seals, needed new right hand setup, and one of my calipers was frozen, figured it was just an easier way to do it). I am goin to replace the motor because the maxim's motor has less miles and the seca's motor might have a bad cam chain(its gona come out anyway).... I replaced the rear wheel on it also, the rim size to the maxim is 16 and the one for the seca is 18, But it seems to be slipping(or something) when i give it a good amount of throttle at a higher Rpm(idk took off tack, hated the cluster with a billion sensors). I am not sure what the slipping is, could it be that the gears in the rear wheel aren't matching with the drive shaft gears?, I changed the fluid in the drive-shaft, Could I have under/overfilled it?(I filled it from the bolt towards the back until it was full and spilling out)..... Is it my transmission or my clutch? (its hard and loud to shift and sometimes, reminds me of a dry clutch in a harley).... Last but not least.... I saw the carbs for the maxim are a different number, will carbs for a seca fit a maxim?(sounds dumb but just want to make sure).... Thanks for reply in advance
